Barter Items

Obviously if you are reading this article you already have a modicum of common sense about the impending changes to our capitalist system or the prophesy about the collapse thereof. Some people who have been out of work and have given up on ever finding another job are no longer counted in the unemployment figures since the change in how they are counted so politicians can justify their piss poor job performance…..the rate currently in reality is something akin to 20% not below 10% as touted. Almost 50 million persons receive food stamps and on the rise. Less than 50% of citizens actually pay taxes.

This list was provided by a commenter on GBTV There has been considerably accurate information on the course of events over the past few years submitted by Beck.

Most everyone of these items can be used as barter when the dollar eventually collapses and is worthless. There are some pretty powerful people and organizations working quite diligently to make sure that the devaluation happens while they appear at the same time to be propping the currency (and the country) up. Anyways, be sure to have appropriate numbers of containers that can hold smaller quantities of some of these items – for instance – coffee or liquor. Suggest you make that instant coffee – easier to prepare without electricity.

Store these items in plastic sealed containers if you got enough room or increase the amounts on hand for yourself and mark up the items with your own code to determine which items are for barter…..this could be too simple, but how about “B”. KISS.

We will add more as we see fit……

You are on to something.

One of the most valuable barter items you have is skills.
Stuff is good, but skills get you stuff that you can trade for more stuff.

My Dad taught me welding, basic carpentry, plumbing, auto repair, roofing, electrical work, first aid, cooking and a bunch of other stuff. Recently I taught myself how to make bread from scratch. Not an easy task, but doable.

I am passing those skills down to my kids. When the shtf, they will be very valuable people.

Keep on prepping.

I believe they say a few years (3-5 based on climate). But on a survival board that I frequent, one of the guys said he had stuff in his garage for something like 12 or 15 years and used it and it worked fine.

While I am sure that Mountain men are tough dental hygine is going to be very important during SHTF. Unless you are skill at removing your own impacted teeth.

The seen in ‘Castaway’ and the bad tooth and the ice skate gives me nightmares!

Very true.

And skills will get you in to a survival community a lot faster than goods. Doctors/surgeons won’t have much problem.

Can you post the instructions for making bread from scratch? I started researching it but never actually tried it. Did you use a piece of fermented fruit to make it rise?

I think liquor will be more valuable than gold.

The knowledge to make either would be more valuable than uranium. Think about it. Both items are made from base products but are infinitely valuable in a SHTF situation. Which is better, stocking up on Vodka, or buying a few still parts and the knowledge of how to make shine?

LOL, That reminds me so much of my grandfathher. He was 1st Cav during WWII, majorly decorated but the one thing I remember about him was he joke no one could knock his teeth out.. then he pulled them out.. freaked a little kid like me out when he first did that.

He never, ever talked about the war but he always made that joke.

As a culinary professional... I'd say you need a face-to-face, hands-on training to learn that skill.

And you use yeast from the trub left over from brewing beer to make the bread rise.

Some skills need real training, or lots of trial and error.

I haven’t been in combat, my grandpa was in WWII and my Dad was in Vietnam and both have(had) complete false sets. Is it just normal, concussion injuries, to have them all remove early?

Also honey. It doesn’t go bad, and can be used as an antibiotic, apparently. Topical antibiotic, I mean.

You really don’t need yeast....you can make your own sourdough starter....I just got an “Urban Farmer” magazine that has a great article about it, and it looks easy.

Hard to disagree with that. We stand on the backs of giants.

I have a Sony reader loaded with a bunch of free books (thanks Google Books) those books are loaded with good, factual information.

Just in case there's an 1817 solar flare event, lightning strike, or EMP event.... I store it, and the solar charging system in a Faraday Bag.

Good to have a few million words of wisdom tucked away, including geology and plant identification for my area.

I’m pleasantly surprised. According to this list, I’m pretty well-stocked for barter items. Got a few good ideas of what I’m missing, though.

Speaking of electronics, is a radio on the list?
A good AM/FM/SW could be invaluable in emergency’s.

Heaven forbid the bottom should ever fall out of society, but if it does 9/10th’s of the population wont even be able to feed themselves.

You understand food, I understand food.
Most don’t.
