And it will come as no surprise to those following the GOP presidential debates that the answer of Romney — the former Governor of Massachusetts and father of the “individual mandate” — is more government.

FUMR!!!

Hey, they are the illegals. Why should I have to carry extra identification? At any given time I've already got 4 photo IDs on me. I am not carrying another one without one h*ll of a good reason. Just because someone else is here violating our laws is not a good enough reason to further burden me with proving who I am.

Not sure what everyone is whining about..

Have you forgotten the REAL ID Act Requirements??

“After 2011, “a Federal agency may not accept, for any official purpose, a driver’s license or identification card issued by a state to any person unless the state is meeting the requirements” specified in the REAL ID Act.

The DHS will continue to consider additional ways in which a REAL ID license can or should be used for official federal purposes without seeking the approval of Congress before doing so.

States remain free to also issue non-complying licenses and IDs, so long as these have a unique design and a clear statement that they cannot be accepted for any Federal identification purpose.

The Federal Transportation Security Administration is responsible for security check-in at airports, so bearers of non-compliant documents would no longer be able to travel on common carrier aircraft without additional screening unless they had an alternative government-issued photo ID.”

The National ID card is ALREADY HERE...

I have a better idea.

Change the Constitution so that any politician running for office is required to have a biometric ID card, with all physical characteristics, DNA, etc. and to be implanted with a tracking chip.

Any politician who votes for a bill which (five years after passage) has resulted in at least 10% greater spending than forecast when the bill was debated, or, which (outside of a formal declaration of war) has resulted in an increase of taxes of more than 1% in any single year, shall be tracked down by the implanted chip and sold into slavery to the highest bidder from all non-office-holding, voting civilians within the city/state/district represented. Such slavery to be immediate, lifelong, non-transferable, and irrevocable. Further, the politician is to be stripped of all civil rights.

The politician shall be replaced immediately by either (a) his opponent for that office receiving the highest percentage of the votes of all the rivals, during the past election, or (b) the opposing party's campaign/organizing committee for the same level of government (County / City / District / State)

Proceeds from the sale shall be used to pay OFF the principal on the national debt and may not be used for current or future government spending or interest payments on any level. /taste of their own medicine>

Or better still:

B.T.F.W.

Cheers!

Giving these ID’s to illegals will be one of the first things they’d do next.

Are you guys all nuts? Romney is no ideal conservative, not by a long shot, but is your hatred of him so great that you can't see past your nose?

WE ALREADY HAVE ID CARDS!!!!!!! They are called Social Security cards, Drivers Licenses, etc. Normal people can't get jobs without them. THAT MEANS YOU AND ME!

The ID cards proposed are for immigrants to prove they are here legally.

What's the big beef? Why shouldn't they be required to do the same thing we all must to to have lawful and gainful employment.

Step back from the brink for a minute and think about what you are saying people... This venom and irrational hatred is getting pretty scary.

The sad thing is the media will give him a pass again and again because he’s best alternative to Obama for them; but if he gets nominated they’ll crush him just like McCain. If they were afraid of him...really, the media would be out there crucifying him...but of coarse they’re unsure now, which is a nice thing for once.

If Newt proposed a National ID card, some freepers would be lining up to get theirs. :-)

Romney’s a idiot. Besides, we already have a National ID card. It’s called a Driver’s License.

Last September many read an article in Wired Magazine that described India's ambitious program to create special ID cards for their billion people. The program is headed by entrepreneaur Nandan Nilekani. These cards will have biometric information derived from fingerprints and iris scans. Such was implimented to help in the delivery of vital social services to the poorest in society who often lack – or are at least told they lack – sufficient identification papers. The government has long complained that most of the money set aside for the neediest is diverted as a result of corruption, and it believes the cards could help to tackle identity theft and fraud.

The latest is this program is dead. It is extremely expensive. The Indian government has learned that there are insufficient safeguards to insure that illegal residents are kept from getting such cards and tapping into the social services at the expense of legal citizens.

The case against national ID cards is close, Willard. Let's pick another topic. Do you want to buy a vowel?
