At tonight's Hanukkah party at the White House, President Obama seemed to slip a little off script when he told party goers that "we never need an excuse for a good party." All his guests laughed.

From the official White House transcript:

So while it is not yet Hanukkah, let’s give thanks for our blessings, for being together to celebrate this wonderful holiday season. And we never need an excuse for a good party. (Laughter.)

The reason for the event was Hanukkah. I wouldn't term it an "excuse" for a party, but it was why they were celebrating.
What I hear Obama saying was: "We don't need an excuse for a party" which is to say, "We don't need Hanukkah" which is to say, "I really don't like the Jews."

I think he was doing this as an explicit "in your face" moment. Also: light one candle each night, to symbolize the days of the miracle? Scoff! Let's light 'em all at once! Just get it over with! Got more important things to do! When's Eid????

I don’t know if he thinks very highly of Muslims, but he is a cocky SOB who is probably clever in some ways but not wise. My best guess is that he thinks of religion as being a useful way to con certain people. But there’s only one person he really cares about.

Back in the day, Lee Atwater would have built an entire ad series based on this comment - and made the president look just like the fool he is. Atwater understood how to play the game - for keeps.
