Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich would invite mostly scientists and entrepreneurs including Charles Darwin, father of the theory of evolution to a hypothetical dinner party in which he could select the guest list from historical figures, living or dead, he told the Bio channel.
"He was the most influential scientist in the modern world, and an extraordinary observer of nature," Gingrich said of the evolutionary scientist.
The topic of evolution has become a hot-button issue in the Republican field, after Rick Perry said that it was "a theory that is out there and it's got some gaps in it."
.....Only one politician British Prime Minister Winston Churchill made Gingrich's list.
"He was a Renaissance man whose stubbornness, courage and lifetime of preparation saved the democracies from tyranny," Gingrich said.......
2. Jesus Christ - life is the basis for Christianity
3. Ronald Reagan - U.S. President
4. Winston Churchill - British Prime Minister
5. Albert Einstein - physicist
6. George Washington - U.S. President, General
7. John Fitzgerald Kennedy - U.S. President
8. Thomas Jefferson - U.S. Vice President, U.S. President
9. William Shakespeare - Poet, Playwright
10. Julia Child - Television personality, journalist, chef
11. Newt Gingrich - U.S. Representative
12. John Lennon - Songwriter, Singer
"The most interesting man in the world" commericial.
"His words carry a weight that would break a less interesting man's jaw."
"He's a lover, not a fighter; but he's also a fighter, so don't get any ideas."
"He is the life of parties he has never attended."
"His beard alone has experienced more than a lesser man's entire body."
"He can speak French... in Russian."
"He once punched a magician. That's right. You heard me."
"If he were to punch you in the face, you would have to fight off the strong urge to thank him."
"If he patted you on the back, you would put it on your resume."
"He once taught a dog to bark... in Spanish."
"He bowls overhanded."
"Sharks have a week dedicated to him."
"He lives vicariously... through himself."
"He once had an awkward moment, just to see what it felt like."
"When in Rome, they do as he does."
So he would invite himself?
Hey, now!
I *live* for those commercials.
LOL
LOL!!!
That guy couldn’t hold a candle to Newt. (/s)
Well of course he'd be there but Newt's picks are:
1. Thomas Edison
2. Charles Darwin
3. Orville Wright
4. Wilbur Wright
5. Winston Churchill
6. John Ford
The list LINKED in Post #1 is where people have voted on this question (and where Newt comes in 11th).
If Jim Thompson's not on the list it's not a dinner party ...
it's just a wine and cheeser.
Only one politician?
Would love to see obama’s list of marxist he’d love to dine with.
On Newt's list (see his list in Post #7).
“If he said “its not you it me” he’d be lying”
“Monkey business is his official business with primates”
“When he goes for a swim dolphins appear”
“When the zombies come he’ll be waiting”
“Cavemen go to the barber shop with his picture”
Darwin would be boring at a dinner party. He’d spend the whole evening grouping items in the bread basket by size and color.
Guests at the U.S.state dinner for China's President Hu Jintao hosted by Michelle and Barack Obama.
Last, but not least, because we've ALWAYS been able to trust the NY Times....
I dare say that Gingrich either KNOWS or DOES NOT KNOW what Darwin taught, and what that implies. Either possibility is frightening.
.....[Newt Gingrich] "received a B.A. in history from Emory University in Atlanta in 1965. He received an M.A. in 1968, and then a PhD in modern European history from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1971. His dissertation was entitled "Belgian Education Policy in the Congo: 19451960".
While at Tulane, Gingrich, who at the time belonged to no religious group, began attending the St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church to pursue an interest in the effect of religion on political theory; he was soon baptized by Rev. G. Avery Lee. In 1970, Gingrich was appointed an Assistant Professor in the history department at West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia) in Carrollton. In 1974 he moved to the geography department.
While at West Georgia, Gingrich was instrumental in establishing an inter-disciplinary Environmental Studies program. He left at the end of the 19771978 academic year, after being denied tenure. He also taught a class, Renewing American Civilization, at Kennesaw State University (then called Kennesaw State College) in 1993. -- ....Gingrich converted to Catholicism, Callista Bisek's faith, on March 29, 2009."....
