...With Cain facing a series of harassment allegations, a lack of campaign organization in the early voting states and questions about his readiness for the job, political observers expect another candidate to emerge as Romneys rival.
Gingrich and Perry are the most obvious applicants for that role. Rep. Ron Pauls (Texas) unpopularity with mainstream Republicans makes him unlikely to win, and Gingrich and Perry triple or quadruple everyone else in polling.
...So whos got the upper hand in the race to become Romneys rival? Lets break it down:
Money
Perry is the easy winner here........
Debates
Gingrich is the easy winner here.....
Issues....
The take-away is that both candidates fell from their early heights, in part because their supporters felt they werent ideologically pure enough, so its difficult to know which of the two theyd prefer...in a new Washington Post/ABC poll....Gingrich nearly doubled Perrys performance on the question Who best reflects the core values of the Republican Party? and he edged out Perry on Who is the closest to you on the issues?
Advantage: Gingrich.
Intangibles..........
But if Gingrich takes two of the first three categories, he loses rather badly on the fourth. Perry has been married to his childhood sweetheart for almost 30 years. Gingrich is on his third marriage and has admitted to infidelity in his previous two.
And, yes, Perry is known for being fairly brash, but Gingrich has a famously self-destructive streak and a discipline problem thats imperiled him throughout his career. Gingrich also last held elective office over a decade ago, while Perry has been an executive of one of the most successful states over the past decade.....
Perry trounces Gingrich on whom Republicans think is most electable, doubling the former Speakers support.
Overall
Gingrich takes two categories and Perry takes two, which means....

Well, we just have to agree to disagree on this. I respect your opinions and understand what you are saying and stipulate that Perry would make a better president than Newt, if he could become president.
But this is the 21st century. I honestly believe that in the USA in the 21st century running a conservative (even just a Republican) against the DNC/media conglomerate, communication skills are everything. Communication skills aren’t just part of the job; they ARE the job. In getting elected.
In my opinion, in a general election:
Obama wins by a landslide against Perry.
Gingrich beats Obama by a healthy enough margin to overcome major dem/media voter-fraud.
I would like to see Perry as president ALMOST as much as I would like to see Reagan as president. Either event would take a miracle to happen. The Reagan miracle would be a much bigger one than the Perry miracle, of course, but not that much bigger.
Reagan is never going to return from heavan, overturn the 22nd amendment, and be elected to a 3rd term as President of the United States. And Perry is never going to get there a first time.
Both are unfullfillable dreams, in my opinion.
spelling, sorry... heaven
Newt was part of the 1994 Revolution but he wasn't the only one. Then after the 1998 loses he quit. Newt LIKES ideas and he wonders down different avenues and he latches on to ideas that strike his fancy -- then he wonders off again. He is not someone who is going to put his nose to the grindstone and work hard -- his attention span is very poor, his judgment is not sharp, but his ability to like Newt is boundless. Newt is still looking for something to do with his life.
The powers that be have spoken... you know, these people for whom Nascar drivers, tiger woods and nfl players have to kiss butt for advertisements. Besides, someone too clean bothers them, these hypocrites live and breath sexual harrassment and DNC RINO style bribes of other type.
Cain needs to raise the biting spirit of people and have the swines trample the others, the whole collective of mainstream elite idiots betraying their own business through a businessman needs to cower in shame.
Newt was run out of town by the liberal media. Who do you support?
Amen.
Newt is a swine whore cop. He’ll say the right things on camera, attack maybe liberals and then marry and divorce 6 times liberal slut foreigners mail order brides.
Meanwhile they profit from the anti Cain machine. Disgusting.
You and Liz are two of the most reliable anti-Perry, anti-Perry supporter posters on FR. You're completely predictable and so over the top that your comments are like cartoons.
If that is the image you wish to present to all the non members who lurk on this forum, then there is little hope of ever attracting new Conservatives to our side. Think about it for a change.
Ditto what you said!
As to accomplishing things, you could say the same about Boehner, look how much legislation the house has passed and it didn't get through the senate.
He's written books, he's done think tanks, he has a brilliant mind, but he's a butterfly.
My comment was about civil discourse when opposing or supporting a candidate, which you don't seem to get. It may interest you that Palin would be my choice, if she were running but she isn't. The only Obama-lite I see in this race is Romney, another Mr. Big Government can fix everything if he is charge. I don't have to batter his supporters to make my position known.
Cutting edge intellect again, as usual.
I agree with you 100%. I started reading on FR back in 2004. It was a great site. Informative and intelligent. I support Perry because of his great record. I like him because he is kind but not weak. Our foreign enemies will be worried once again. I live in Tampa and went on vacation to St Pete Beach in August. We met 3 families (on separate occasions) from Texas. They all love Perry and support him. What we are hearing on FR is not the general opinion of Perry. Research who was leading in the polls this time last election. I have done the research on all of the candidates and have formed my decision based on that. Many of the people that use the FR forum are just like those that elected Obama, thinking with emotion not logic. Herman Cain lost the Georgia Senate race for many reasons one being his views on affirmative action. Please research and let’s get back to the intelligent thought out statements and opinions in this forum.
I don’t get Fox News although I used to get it.
But your description of Newt in interviews tracks with what I’ve seen of him in those formats.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Disagree with them, and they threaten to get you banned, and even try to do so. Some even go to great lengths in that regard. It is what it is.
The only viable candidate they have not attacked is Romney, (they are waiting for his nomination.) This should tell us who the liberals want to see run against Obama. Thus it will be Romney and for all the people out there who will “write” someone in on the ballot, or refuse to vote, you will be giving the country to the unions, illegals, and general all around freaks. You WILL have government healthcare and you WILL spread whatever wealth you may have around. So make a sacrifice for your country and vote for the Republican ticket.
The folks in Iowa don’t seem to think so.
Yes. Romney is being protected. It’s infuriating.
And in that vein, I about levitated yesterday when Herman Cain sang Romney’s praises when he was asked about comments Romney directed toward his sexual harassment accusation situation when answering a question during an interview earlier in the day. I wonder what it would take for Herman Cain to not praise Romney.
