Christian Survivalists Losing Faith in the Future
Off the Grid ^ | 11/6/11 | LYDIA POLZER

As of today, Todd Ganovski doesn’t think the world will end anytime soon.

But he does believe that trouble — either a natural disaster or economic crisis — is coming. And he thinks God wants him to help people prepare for it.

Ganovski is co-founder of Emergency Provision, an eBay site based in Tennessee that sells emergency food supplies online and through church networks. He thinks recent disasters like the flood in Nashville, the tsunami in Japan and the earthquake in Washington, D.C., are signs from God that a major disaster is on the way.

“If it does happen, I don’t want to have to jump through FEMA’s hoops to get food,” he said.

Hey, but someone has to be standing on the bridge waiting for FEMA to bring them a bottle of water, a MRE and a warm blanket. I mean how else is the Network News anchor going to get their money shot?

One of the response I see posted to preparedness threads is, well if it’s God’s will and he has called forth the Apocalypse all your prepping won’t do you a bit of of good, well to that I say DUH!

I am very aware that if it’s the great end that there is nothing I can do to stop or change it, but history is full of instances and times when man or nature have caused such a calamity that people have cried out and begged God to end it all.

The bible has many verse such as this:

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

This verse and others are there for a reason and I urge all to take heed of them, because we are clearly on the edge. Everyday there is a new story about the ‘Yutes’ who grow more restless everyday and when you add the fact that because of the economy people are already on edge it won’t take much to set things off.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

Today we have ‘yutes’ who roam our streets who are with out morals, without respect for law or life itself. They will look are you with the same ‘doll eyes’ a shark does before he eats you and they will feel no more compassion than the shark does.

That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

If you like to read more about what SHTF in Bosnia was like take a look at this post on Bosnia War Survivor Selco’s post:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2798007/posts

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.”

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

I had a chance to glance over your manual and was quite impressed. I look forward to reading it. I appreciate the hard effort you went to in order establish a solid biblical basis for the manual.

Is that tent you're sleeping in on Wall Steet keeping you warm tonight?

You mean like ole Joseph and Egypt? The Israelites did buy the grain from the Egyptians, my friend.

If you need to keep it cold, may I suggest considering buying a case of atheletic cold packs and a small cooler (or even one inside another). I know, it’s not the same as you asked, but it’s something that you could consider. Take care, and God Bless.

Hey Kart, I like this scripture, as referenced by another Freeper, Proverb 6:6-9:

“6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”

“powdered insulin or something like it is what I need”

That is a tough question.
After reading the book “one second after” I realized how devastating it would be. My son is a type 1 diabetic. There are many others who depend on medication to sustain their lives. If there is a prolonged interruption in supply lines these people will die.

There are some herbal treatments for diabetes. I doubt they are as effective but they may be better than the alternative. survivalblog has some articles on them.

I think Christians put their faith in God rather than in “the future”.

When God put stories in the Bible about seven fat years and seven lean years, and proverbs about seeing danger before walking straight into it, I figure He wanted His followers to have wisdom about such things. Such a gift of wisdom inspires faith, because those who ignore the Bible miss out and remain fools.

I also like:

Proverbs 21:20 “In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but the foolish man devours all he has.”

I was unaware that there even was such a thing as “powdered insulin,” but apparently, there is!

” I was unaware that there even was such a thing as “powdered insulin,” but apparently, there is!”

Now that’s interesting and maybe can be stored for a long time. However, if the grid is down for a long time how will you get more? Will it still be manufactured anywhere? Will the transportation infrastructure be intact?
At best a diabetic can prepare for a few weeks but after that, if the grid is still down you will die.
