Perry's opponents have unfairly painted the governor as relaxed on border security, and all too willing to give illegal immigrants a free ride. Presidential politics can be harsh sometimes, and some candidates are all too quick to foster erroneous lies about other candidates in the hope to plant seeds of doubt about how serious Perry is about border security.
The ide Perry is soft on border security is just wrong.
Ramshaw reports In 2005, Perry announced a $10 million state program to boost border patrols and upgrade radio systems along the border, installed hundreds of video cameras, and requested 1,000 National Guard troops along the Texas-Mexico border, but only received 250. In 2009 he supported a since-passed legislation requiring Texans to show a photo identification to vote, and worked to outlaw sanctuary cities.

The issue isn’t is a state university can admit illegal aliens. Our universities in Texas and the nation have been admitting FOREIGNERS to our universities since George Washington. Your issue is that Perry supports a law that allows a very narrowly-defined group of people (15,000 to be more exact) in-state tuition, if they attended three years of Texas high school.
Note that if a high schooler in Alabama wanted in-state tuition to Texas A&M, that Alabaman need only have a residence in Texas for 1 year. No three years in high school required.
This is a totally stupid reason to hate Perry.
The reason you can be disappointed in Perry is because he totally fubared the answer to Romney in that first debate over this. And now the rest of the overly paranoid anti-Mexican coalition of fringe right black helicopter kooks are running circular patterns around the parking lot screaming. You know these types. They are the most annoying dinner companions. They never shut up about their silly conspiracy theories. And they know that they are ALWAYS right, and you just aren’t as informed as they are in whatever InfoWars puts on their silly Web site.
Had Perry noted that the law is not a subsidy, and went into all the good things his Governor’s office has done to secure the Texas-Mexico border, he wouldn’t have given ammo to the goon squad.
Gig ‘Em Ags and Vote Perry 2012!

Oh, cynical me...it's really all about "heart."
Amen Clarity!
Principle reason Obama is a failed president is because of his inability to use carrots when he had both sticks and carrots in his quiver. The Tea Party took away his quiver now, and no one gives a damn what he says, as evidence his so-called $450 billion “jobs” plan that even the Dems won’t touch with a 10-foot pole.
On the other hand, had Obama been savvy, he’d generated some goodwill with the Republicans when he had the carrots to hand out.
It's not a matter of our "liking" or "disliking" his acts. It's a matter of a political machine in Texas which is facilitating crime, and in the process leading ultimately to TX going the way of CA, and the U.S. going the way of both. So-called "Hispanics" vote 3:1 for Demonrats. Third World immigration lowers the average educational achievement and IQ of the U.S. population, and sets the stage for the kind of ethnic conflicts we see in every single other nation where peoples of different cultures are place in proximity.
Yes this kind of fencing is "heartless"....
Amen to that. Yes, it's true about the migrant monies. Tex Educ Agency is reporting that Hispanics make up more than 50% of all students. Granted some are legal but there's a huge percent who are illegal. My property taxes have gone from 2 weeks of take home pay to 10 weeks of take home pay. Sadly, they wouldn't bring it down because they claim we're lower than comparable property. Excuse me, but how can anyone manage when over 1/5 of their income goes straight out the door and into an illegal's mouth? It's just ridiculous. My kids have just graduated from HS the past 3 three years but when they'd visit the lower campuses they'd come back surprised at how many more illegals there were. Yes, it started becoming a serious problem during W but it's escalated during Perry. You know something is wrong when the McDonald's menu is in Spanish and you can't go into Whataburger because illegals have staked it out as their own.
It is outrageous that Texas A&M, because of Gov. Perry, is awarding those who violated the law with in-state tuition and financial aid, stated Steven Schroeder, chair of the Texas Aggie Conservatives, in a press release. The Aggie Conservatives student organization condemns Gov. Perry for allowing taxpayer dollars to support illegal immigrants, the release states. These policies are harmful to citizens as they burden the taxpayer and reward criminal behavior.

E-Verify has opponents on the right, too. Groups like Rutherford.org oppose it on the grounds that it is a Trojan Horse for a national ID card.
I think that the Texas Agri-Business lobby has Perry’s ear also has something to do with it, too. Texas agriculture depends upon cheap labor from Mexico, they always have, since Sam Houston.
The problem as of late is that it is virtually impossible to get legalized labor across the border anymore because of tougher federal immigration (green card) requirements. So, Texas Agribusiness has to adopt, overcome and adjust.
And this is for job openings like sheep shearing. There are not too many trade schools in America teaching kids how to shear sheep. It’s back-breaking work.
Good Post. The likes of Bush Jr. and Mr. Anita Perry will never lift a finger to stop our homeland from turning into Mexico.
I don’t support Perry because he is the antithesis of a few things that I stand for as a CONSERVATIVE:
- private property rights
- parental rights
- encouragement of illegal migration (and yes, he was for sanctuary cities before he was against them)
- he supports and defends ‘compassionate conservationism’ (I do not want Bush III)
- he did not defend Jan Brewer when he had the opportunity
In all honesty, I do get that when he signed the dream act into law, it was the ‘thing’ to do. It was popular at the time.
But times changed. We live in a post 9-11 world with a broken economy. Illegal immigration has become a burden. We have ranchers being slaughtered on our border. My own step-father was killed by an illegal who fled to Mexico to escape prosecution.
But Perry can not seem to understand that we live in a different world than we did in 2000. He doesn’t get it.
A lot of freepers are lying through their teeth about this (and more) too. They know it’s wrong, so it has to be deliberate.
Yup.
And to anyone who says that I hate Mexicans...
My UNCLE is a MEXICAN. Born and raised in Mexico.
Guess who hates illegal immigrants more than anyone I know?
MY UNCLE.
He came to this country fluent in 9 languages with a PhD. He worked his butt off to become an American citizen and he LOVES this country.
He despises LINE-JUMPERS who didn’t earn a place here.
I want tons more immigrants like my uncle who love and appreciate this country.
Perrybots would do well to let it go.
I live in Texas and I just received my yearly tax bill. It includes taxes for the city, the county, the local school district,
the Community College, the county Hospital district, the river authority and the flood fund. There are no taxes for the
University of Texas, or A&M, or Baylor or Texas Tech or any of the other hundreds of colleges in Texas. They are funded with sales taxes
private endowments and numerous other ways. Google one of the state colleges and look at the funding.
