The last few weeks we have witnessed a shakeup up in the Republican field. The newest buzz candidate is Herman Cain. I was an early supporter of Cain's and even donated to his campaign. He is a very appealing candidate. He is the 2012 populist and I think we are all feeling a little comfort from the populist viewpoint. I have since come to my senses and realized that our party needs to focus. We need to focus on his accomplishments, his statements, his actions, but not his skin color. I know it is an easy trap to fall into. I am a bi-racial man who has a father who is black. I understand Americans were ready to "move on" and ready to give "political reparations" by electing a black candidate. The problem with that kind of thinking is simple: The Presidency should never be decided by race. We cannot be a country based on racial politics. I now think that 2008 was a mistake. There was an unwarranted abundance of goodwill extended to an unknown candidate with an unknown track record. That candidate was Barack Obama.

However, as bad as some of the Republicans are, they could NEVER sink to the level of the Democrats and the Democrat Party.
They never have.
The Republican Party was FOUNCED as the anti-slavery party, to defeat the pro-slavery Democrat Party.
The Democrat Party is the party of slavery, jim crow, segregation, and the Ku Klux Klan.
This is not ancient history. The Democrat Senate Majority Leader in the 21st century was the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan.
The Democrat Party is the party of sociopaths and other opportunist who will stop at nothing to achieve their self-serving agendas--which is basically self-aggrandizement, funnelling money into their own bank accounts, corruption, graft, and exploitation of the masses whom they profess to protect (that's a laugh).
There is no limit to the depths to which these people will sind.
Republicans could NEVER sink to their level.

I find it funny the standards we hold the most Conservative declared candidates but we bypass the ‘establishment’ candidates with. With Cain, Santorum, or even Bachmann, we reject them for some stupid wording issues we disagree with on a response (that really is a statement on the media and not Cain) but some demand we overlook major broken legs in the platforms of other candidates.
And MN, you are right, there has been a major misrepresentation of the 999 as a VAT. They are completely different.
Cain has the type of experience I want: bringing back businesses and making them profitable. That's what we need for the USA. The only thing that worries me is Mr. Cain trying to bring a recalcitrant Congress along for the ride.

As far as racial politics goes, Herman Cain might be just the guy to destroy it, even if he doesn’t get the nom.
They are different and I semi support 999. But I do agree that the message on 999 is sort of misplaced. I can see the slippery slope of added taxes and it is a pipe dream anyway as it will never pass congress. I could use a better argument from Cain as 999 is not that inspiring so far.
The author did raise valid concerns regarding Cain, namely the problem posed by the abuse of a VAT tax, Cain’s praise of Bernancke, and his lack of political experience. However, that being said, the author offers no other alternative candidate. My chief concern is defeating Romney and right now, Cain is best positioned to challenge him. With the GOP field as it stands now, this process is more about excluding the wrong candidates than it is about selecting the best candidate. That could change if...
Cain is a walking and talking grassroots revolution.
My fear is your post. There is no alternative if palin does not run that leaves us with very little alternative.. chris christie will not save us he will save the squishes on capital hill
I love the grassroots groundswells. I am not much of a ron paul fan I mean he is like my 50 love 50 hate candidate but I do admire his grassroots campaigns. cain is doing something very similar.
Yes, she was right in what she said during the debate. When she started quoting “hearsay” it diminished what good she had done during the debate. It was amateurish as you say.
However, when I look at what is available...if Sarah doesn't run...Michelle is the closet to my position.
I have to agree with you. Absolutely, I hope to see some more fire in michelle in the next few debates. I do not like viewing her as Romneys sidekick.
Right now, Cain is the best option out there. ...He needs to stop getting drawn into the pop issues of the day, and turn up the heat on Obama. But, ...that could be considered racist.
I was blown over when I looked him upon YOUTube the first time. Palin is the best stump speaker I have ever heard and she can coin a phrase with the best, but Cain is more articulate. Heck he is more articulate than Obama because he is a more discursive thinker.
Cain was on the Neil Boortz show this morning. To paraphrase, Neil asked him what the heck was up with him allowing the media to lead him by the nose through every minor scandal of their making.
Cain agreed that he shouldn’t have done so.
Neil suggested that he should have answered the hunting compound controversy by saying, “I’m focused on what’s going to happen during the next four years - NOT on what supposedly happened 20 yrs ago.”
Cain conceded that was a much better answer and that is what he should have said.
Cain made a mistake. I chalk that mistake up to inexperience with the national media more than I do an attempt to race-bait. I don’t think he’ll make that same mistake, again.

So you believe that black people who supported McCain were also racist? Seems to me quite the opposite.
I support Herman because he’s the best man for the job. If I were hiring for a position, I’d take Herman before any of the others.
That’s why I support him for the presidency. Sure, he’s Black, and I’m white, but that’s irrelevant to it.
