Beware the 9's of Cain!

Have you heard about 999? Sorry, it isn't a German Hausfrau admonishing her children. What is 999? It's a new tax scheme dreamed up by Republican candidate, Herman Cain. In his plan, we have a 9% corporate tax, a 9% income tax, and a 9% sales tax.

Here is the bottom line: 999 is one tax MORE than we now have. Argue all you like about the 9% rate, but know this, we are NOT now paying a national sales tax of 9%.

Please consider this. Governments love to tax. Governments love taxing so much that they will at times violate their own Constitution in their frenzy to find more tax money to fill their coffers. Fortunately, when that occurs, citizens do have some recourse in appealing to the courts the violation of their Constitution, as is the case of the individual mandate in ObamaCare.

Not so with the 999 of Herman Cain. The Constitution says that an income tax is acceptable. It speaks nary a word about a corporate tax, meaning that taxes not specifically forbidden are OK. That means a 9% sales tax can also be easily instituted by simple act of Congress.

Remember, governments loving taxes is a passion surpassing that of teenage boys loving teenage girls. They love them so much that our current income tax, once a percent or two of one's income, is now ranging into the high 30 percent. After all, they are Congress and the only thing preventing tax hikes is elections, and even they don't seem to prevent them awfully well.

So imagine that innocent looking 999 some day being 101010 or 121212 or even 303030. What's to prevent it? Absolutely nothing.

Without a Constitutional amendment setting those precise limits, or, in my opinion, an amendment that ends the socially manipulative income tax altogether and forever, those meek little 9's are very dangerous seeds planted that will grow and grow.

Therefore, there is no doubt about 999. America's response should be "Nein, nein, nein!"

Like I said, see #144 and go through the steps.

That is what you’ll pay.

And without an amendment simultaneously (1) repealing the income tax, and (2) implementing a sales tax, you will pay that and more for forever.

And some people know that without the an amendment that simultaneously repeals the income tax and implements the sales tax, that they are dupes of crafty politicians.

How long have politicians been talking about fundamentally changing our tax laws? As far back as I can remember. Ain’t gonna happen, no matter who’s in the White House.

Simplifying the tax code is never going to happen.

All the more reason NOT to support a plan that calls for an additional tax. The Lord knows that the politicians will find a way to implement that part of Cain's plan.

(The pastor gives up his right to free speech by claiming tax-exempt status.)

I'm a pastor, and that's simply not true. All of us pay income taxes PLUS social security at the self-employed rate PLUS tax on all benefits.

And the only thing preventing its going higher is a ... politician's promise.

And that is what I love about Herman Cain, he's not a politician, he's a business man.

I am just baffled by your responses here. Who do you want? I have never been so behind a nominee before. I thought he didn't have a chance, and I'd have to vote for Perry, then Perry dived and Romney was the choice. FINALLY, there's hope for a decent candidate. Again, I ask, who is your choice??

Until he gets rid of the sales tax idea, this is a terrible plan for America to accept!

Agreed.

Once upon a time in America, in the days of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates, ideas had to be explained and then defended in detail. Today, in what now passes for so-called "debates", what counts is being able to throw out catchy sounding sound bites and memorized wise cracks ("Where's the beef?") in less than 30 seconds.

The 9-9-9 Plan sounds cute and catchy but, now that Cain is no longer flying under the radar, the 9-9-9 Plan will get dissected.

The plan, for the first time in U.S. History, introduces a FEDERAL SALES TAX. As U.S. History has show, once you let the nose of a Tax Camel into your tent, the Tax Camels fat butt will eventually follow.

In 1913, the brand new Federal Income Tax was introduced and the top rate was only 7% (A cute little camel nose). By 1944, the top rate had ballooned to 94% (One huge, fat camel arse.)

Once you introduce a brand new Federal Sales Tax at 9% under Republican President Cain, what prevents a money addicted Federal government from jacking it up under Democrat President Jones to 10% .... 11% .... 12% .... 14% .... 16% .... 18% .... ?

Think about it.

Also think about what a 9% National Sales Tax means to seniors on small fixed incomes that currently pay no Income Taxes right now.

A NINE PERCENT DROP IN PURCHASING POWER.

Also think about what a 9% National Sales Tax means to those of us with significants savings that we accumulated over a lifetime during the Income Tax era:

A NINE PERCENT DROP IN PURCHASING POWER in 2014 of those saved Dollars that were ALREADY INCOME TAXED when we earned them.

All the nestegg money that you earned and saved up until now will end up being DOUBLE TAXED. Income Taxed when you earned and saved it at (insert your own income tax rate here) and then National Sales TAXED AGAIN at a 9% rate when you spend it in 2014.

I posted Cain’s title. Does anything else matter?

As a matter of fact, yes it does. Your own lack of attention to detail pertaining to Herman Cain's experience and campaign platform is almost as sloppy as Rick Perry's campaign.

Worse yet, you are attempting to spread false information about Herman Cain in an effort to sabotage his campaign. Why would a retired chaplain do that? :::shudders:::

Speaking of false information, you were the one who stated Rick Perry did not call the conservative audience heartless if we did not agree with his immigration tuition subsidy.

What is up with all of the bald faced lies around here?

Do disrespect intended, sir; but I must ask: Are you saying that you can publicly endorse or speak out against a candidate or speak for/against a bill from the pulpit of your church and maintain your church’s tax-exempt status?

Also think about what a 9% National Sales Tax means to seniors on small fixed incomes that currently pay no Income Taxes right now.

Give those seniors a sales tax rebate option.

Seniors are currently the wealthiest segment of the population. We can come up with ways to protect the low-end outliers in that demographic.

I have my own concerns with a Federal sales tax. But at least Cain is putting out a plan to be analyzed.

And, quite frankly, your scare-the-seniors tactic against Cain’s 999 proposal reeks of Dem opportunism. Are you really sure you wish to pursue that kind of approach on FR?

Actually, it is more accurate to say you are taxed three times. Because the first 9% is a tax on your income. The third 9% is a sales tax, which is a tax on the income that you spend that was already taxed at 9%. The second 9% is a corporate tax, which will be added to the price of the things that I buy when I get to pay the sales tax with the money I was already taxed on — three taxes.

Don't forget that the savings you have accumulated up to now will end up being taxed out the wazoo.

Although a high earner, I have always been a frugal guy and a high saver. I had the top income tax rate rate of 35% last year. So, let's do the arithmetic for $100 earned and saved in December 2010 and then spent in 2014 under the 999 Plan.

($100 earned in 2010) - (35% Income rate) = ($65 left over to put in the bank in 2010)

($65 of saved money) - (9% Federal Sales Tax in 2014) = ($59.15 of left over purchasing power)

TOTAL CUMULATIVE TAX RATE ON THAT MONEY SAVED AND SPENT: 40.85%

Those of us born in the 1950's who were taught the conservative values of hard work, frugality and savings will take it in the shorts as our life savings will be double taxed at an obscene cumulative rate.

Those who were taught to spend like drunken sailors without ever saving a dime don't have to worry about the double taxation on their current savings because they HAVE no savings.

Cain’s proposal is a bad idea. Before any national sales tax is implemented, the 16th amendment has to be repealed, all income taxes ended and the IRS shut down.

9-9-9 will ultimately turn into 15-15-15 and higher. I’m all for a simpler tax system but unless the spending binges are stopped, these numbers will not stay at the 999 level. It’ll keep going up and up and up.

I’m trying to follow you here, xzins. If I pay 9% on gross, then spend half of my gross on retail at a 9% rate, doesn’t that give me a total of 13.5% tax paid on total gross?

Between employer and employee contribution, don’t I pay over 15% FICA & Med? Not even including federal tax?

I’m getting confused...
