Rep. Michele Bachmann, Governor Rick Perry and former Senator Rick Santorum met in Waterloo, Iowa this evening to speak to the Blackhawk County Republicans. Santorum spoke first then Rick Perry spoke and after that Bachmann spoke last, but before that this strange event happened:
Chuck Todd NBC: Bachmann would not enter the building until they had confirmation from staffers INSIDE that the lights had been changed. Overheard a Bachmann staffer supervising the light change say: "We're a go"
Peter Hamby CNN: Lights were dimmed for Bachmann when she took the stage
HotAir Ed Morrissey: Wrap-up from Waterloo: Perry embraced, Bachmann falls a little flat
The lighting had to be changed before Bachmann spoke, apparently at the campaigns insistence, which delayed her entrance and interfered with the timing of her entrance announcement. But more puzzlingly, Bachmann didnt arrive to mix with the crowd before the event started, waiting until she was scheduled to speak to enter the Electric Ballroom.
Love the tagline!
I heard from my neighbors roommate that Obama always leaves the toilet seat up.
A lot of the good and the bad about how Bachmann has been behaving can probably be attributed to her campaign manager, Ed Rollins, who was Reagan's campaign manager; but who has since turned into a despicable, sinister old hack. He is not a person she can trust.
The first week on the job, he started publically bashing Sarah Palin, and has encouraged campaign staff to bash Palin behind the scenes.
Rollins would, of course, want to present Bachmann the same way he presented Ronald Reagan. In the meantime, she has lost her spontaneity and most of her spunk. She is now too calculating and robotic. Her image is too fake and controlled.
Michele Bachmann would be wise to dump Ed Rollins. If she ever wants Sarah Palin's endorsement, she should do it sooner rather than later.
.
What vitriol?
Too bad if she ran “Bus One” off the road into an Iowa cornfield...LOL!
So ... you’re upset that Rollins is “bashing” Palin, yet you in turn bash Bachman?
When will Sarah run, or will she even run?
It’s possible that the medication she uses makes her eyes sensitive to strong light. That could also account for why she kept leaving the stage during the debate.
Her eyecolor us very light as well, so if she is using aspirin or any NSAIDS, bright light could double the discomfort.
Not on this thread but the general tone here on FR. I like Bachmann and want her to remain viable but hopefully in the congress. I wasn't singling out anyone in particular. I guess I'm just a little frustrated.
Any questions?
Had a play director who suffered from serious migraines, and she had to stay away from the strong stage lights or she’d start shaking uncontrollably. I don’t think Michelle is to that point, but I can understand where that would affect someone with that condition.
Easy answer. Migraine sufferers are very sensitive to light. She wanted the lights dimmed to prevent a migraine or because she had a migraine.
My daughter gets migraines sometimes and tries to avoid bright lights, strobe lights and 3-D movies anyone of which can bring on a migraine for her.
So dimming the lights may have been a precautionary measure against bringing on a migraine.
Plus Michelle Bachmann is probably really exhausted from going at it all week in the straw poll. Perry did not have that stress. It all sounds like nit picking.
I have never bashed Bachmann. I have said that her choice of Ed Rollins is a huge mistake, but I don't think that's bashing. If Palin doesn't run, I might support Bachmann, especially if she dumps Rollins.
I don't bash Tea Party members. I will bash Ed Rollins, however, who is not a Tea Party member.
When will Sarah run, or will she even run?
I don't know. Here's a post about that I wrote more than a month ago essentially saying there is no real hurry because she already has name recognition and a ready-made organization in the Tea Party, and she can save money and energy and not expose herself to attacks by waiting.
I have since vacillated. Sometimes I think it would be best if she didn't run because the Tea Party needs her to publicly lead the cause as she did in 2010. The party would suffer if there was no one to do that in 2012. Plus, it's like your queen in chess. She is the most powerful piece, but if you expose her, the opposition will attack and maybe destroy her. She needs to very careful about picking her spots.
But now, given the field, I think the Tea Party's best chance is for her to get the nomination and win the presidency.
Again, no hurry for a decision.
.
Just a coincedence I'm sure.
From the Politico...
She camped out in her bus, parked on the street in front of a nearby Ramada Hotel, until it was time to take the stage. Even after a local officials introduction, Bachmann was nowhere to be found. It was not until a second staffer assured her that the lighting had been changed and a second introduction piped over the loudspeakers that she entered the former dance hall here. By the time she made her big entrance to bright lights and blaring music, the crowd seemed puzzled.

It means before any speech etc, she will ask to dim lights, or after a long discussion, she will request something. Not sure whether she can handle long grueling campaign. My take, she will be out within 6-8 weeks.
That sounds like Ed Rollins, who was Reagan’s campaign manager and now manages Bachmann’s campaign.
Reagan’s staff was very meticulous about getting the setting — lighting, foreground, backdrop — just right. (I can’t remember his name, but Reagan had a guy on his presidential staff who was brilliant at it.)
Rollins might be doing the same for Bachmann.
