Pastor Nancy Petty, the lesbian spiritual leader at Pullen Memorial Baptist church in Raleigh, N.C., has a message for her state: Legalize same-sex marriage or else. Until gay unions are legislatively permitted, Petty plans to no longer sign marriage licenses an action that will potentially have a profound impact on her congregation.
In addressing same-sex marriage, Petty said the following to her congregation:
Do we, Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, want to continue to participate in offering religious ceremonies that carry with them civil and human rights that are not afforded to all people? Or will it be our practice and the practice of our ministers to honor all marriages equally by only offering religious ceremonies, thus not acting as agents of the state and perpetuating the unjust marriage laws of our state?
The church has a long history of advocating for progressive policies. According to ABP, its former pastor, Edwin McNeill Poteat, was a leading advocate for progressive Christianity within the Southern Baptist Convention in the early 1900s.
The pastors who followed also took stances on issues related to organized labor, the Vietnam War and, obviously, gay rights. As a result of the latter, the church was removed from the Raleigh Baptist Association, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and the Southern Baptist Convention in the 1990s.

isn't it interesting how things happen...the protestants revolt from the true church....each of about 20,000 denominations makes their own rules, and they get upset when someone within one of these "denominations" decides that they know better what the true church really is......amazing
Who bloody well cares? Just sayin’
Those of us who profess Christianity ... we care. Just sayin’
There is one behavior in The Bible which is specifically called an abomination and Biblical history showed it's desolation that was the end result.
Maybe this is what it meant maybe it isn't but the churches are under attack and homosexuality is being used as the choice weapon. The Bible shows that Sodom and Gomorah were destroyed for practicing this very behavior.
Is this the “true church” that is being sued all over the world because their pervert clergy preyed upon children, shamefully abused them, and then were sheltered by their bishops so they could continue their sinful behavior? Some “true church.”
Luther did, Wesley did, Zwingley did, Henry VIII did,Joseph Smith did, many other misguided men did....none were right, but they all have followers
kind of like the KJV isn't it??
Umm, why are heterosexual couples trying to be married by her in the first place?
Marriage! Another fine institute attacked and nearly destroyed once government took over the duty and domain of church. The authority too marry before GOD can only come from where two or more believers are gathered in His name. If a person wants paper to prove it? Sign the union a Bible. An illicit act under GOD's laws but legal under state laws called a marriage does not a marriage before GOD make. They can write all civil law they wish. GOD's Word does not change.
yes, it is that same church....however we do not judge an entire organization by the antics of a few....you realize, of course, that the incidence of abuse is much higher within the public school, protestant clergy, and even scouting, than in the Catholic church. The church is made up of sinners, some of course worse than others. We can only hope that these peopple repent of their deeds and ask God's forgiveness.....but you must be very careful when throwing stones lest they strike someone near you. The only reason that you hear of Catholic violations are because a complaint against a priest has to be defended by his diocese....that means money....bringing suit against the local church of what's happening now means no money....not worth the effort
Sorry. I’m with you. Just in a sassy mood.
She’s a petty god.
Been there, done that. LOL!
The hell you say.
...does the “pastor” serve Communion to atheists? I mean, it would be unfair not to, wouldn’t it?
LOL. Some threat.
Well I have TWO messages for Nancy Petty:
1) You’re not a Pastor.
2) You’re not a Christian.
