Mark this up as yet another knock against the pledge, which seems to be happening frequently as of late and particularly within the mainstream media.
In Oregon, the Eugene Town Council voted 5-2 against a motion to recite the pledge at the opening of every town meeting. There was a compromise allowing the pledge to be said 4 times a year but only on certain holidays. One council member who voted for the ban said reading the pledge was like reading the Communist Manifesto before every meeting.
Yes, you read that correctly on both counts. The compromise struck allows the council to recite it a whopping 4 times per year, and a member did liken it to reading the Communist Manifesto.
Take a look for yourself:

Would you honestly expect a town that is almost completely dominated by bleeding heart liberals and Marxists to insist the town council say the Pledge of Allegiance?
Get real.
Eugene?? I thought they did already have reading from the Communist Manifesto.
Exactly. High concentrations of anarchists, eco-loons and other whackos in Eugene.
Eugene is Moscow on the Willamette. It’s the Northwest version of Berkeley and a homosexual power base. It’s almost as liberal as Portland.
As soon as their taxpayer money is cut off they will disappear.
Eugene is a wacko liberal town, like Portland. To be fair, some (not all) liberals in Portland at least, are not so easy to pin down. A guy I knew, very liberal politically, was not only an ACLU member, but an NRA life member as well. He described himself as a “Gun-toting, meat-eating, tree-hugging liberal”. We used to go shooting together at The Place To Shoot, an indoor firing range. He was a good shot, too, and had a CCW permit.
Portland and Eugene both are festering liberal pusstules that need to be lanced and drained.
They would prefer to pledge to Mother-Earth or Son of Mother-Earth, Algore.
The entire west coast is lost to the communists - even Seattle has a statue of Vladdy Lenin in the town square.
These commie states should shut down all power plants and be forced to create their electricity with solar panels and windmills that they are trying to force on us.
Never mind the pledge of allegiance;will they follow their oaths to uphold the Constitution?
Eugene, Oregon? Probably not smart enough to remember the pledge.
Spent my college years (63-66) there, left and never looked back. The place was crawling with “Bell, Book & Sandal” by the time I finished. California infected the place I doubt it will ever recover. Some day expect the State of Jefferson to emerge from the bottom half of Oregon and the top third of California.
