Speaking of Boeing, there is the new plant coming to Charleston, SC, but since a huge earthquake has been predicted there, it puzzles me over the choice of that particular site. The unions are up in arms, as south has several ‘right to work’ states.

Of course, when the Navy Base went out more than a decade ago, it did leave a huge hole economically, with lots of empty spaces.

Sad- trying to take control at the last minute when everything is already out of control......

Three and a half minutes.

The stall alert system is also part of the software that flies the aircraft. Nobody can tell what it did;

Stall warnings were captured on the Cockpit Voice Recorder.

So what? Earthquake prediction is a highly uncertain science. If we were to abandon all the areas in the US that might have a big earthquake sometime, we'd need to take over all of Mexico and a piece of Canada to accommodate the refugees. I'm sure Boeing is capable of building an earthquake resistant airplane factory.

Meanwhile, the GOP needs to be beating Obama over the head with the NLRB's decision in the Boeing case!

I agree with your last statement. As for the other, it was an observation, since SC is a very large state, so don’t take it personally.

“I agree about US airlines, and does your position make flying necessary all the time?”

No, I have not flown in over two years now.
I was flying often from 1999 to 2009, but it was for pleasure, and mostly to Europe. KLM had a direct flight from Memphis to Amsterdam. Those were really nice flights.

In the 70s I had my own plane.
I am now retired and living on a beach.

As for your post on Charleston, I often vacationed in
that area, Pawley’s Island.
I recall passing the Boeing site a number of times while
traveling the coastal highway.
I can not imagine earthquakes being much of a concern there.

I saw it on weather channel, as they were talking about earthquakes and hurricanes of future.

What beach? I wanted to live on the beach in my old age, and spend time with seagulls, cranes, any all the birds....I have lived in the mountains so long, and our beaches in NC and SC have so much junk washing up now. Pawleys Island area is great, as it isn’t so overcrowded.

I stopped in Memphis, TN once, on my way to AZ, and I remember ordering an omelet, and they put chili on it....it was good.

I live on a beach, on Cebu, two hours south of Cebu City, in the Philippines. I am now 66, but into my second life, as
I am the proud father of a 4 month old baby boy.

Yes, Pawleys is a great island, with little to no commercial
operations.
We became good friends with a family that owned a small inn.
The husband of the owner was the lawyer for the governor of SC.
in the late 80s or early 90s, fire destroyed the main building and dinning room, and afterwards, hurricanes pretty much finished it off.

I still visit the Pawleys web site, http://pawleys.org/
Each year they have videos of the annual 4th of July parade, and they also have a web cam that overlooks the beach.
My daughter, now 28, rode her bike in the parades when she was about five.

That is so cool. Congrats on the second family. I think a lot of people have spent time in Phillipines, from my area.

My son wants to go to Panama, but I don’t trust their government, as many Americans were promised citizenship, and they reniged.

Yes, it has become a popular destinations for us old
goats.
May/September relationships are very common here, unlike
any other country.
I came here from Slovakia, where I had been living since 2004.

Central and South America are also becoming hot spots for expats.
There is an online magazine, Escape From America, that has
a lot on that area.

Ireland is one of countries I had considered, but it’s because I am Scots-Irish with some English, Scandinavian, and smidge of Chowan.

The last seven years have been an eyeopener in USA, as to our future. These horrible statements about Israel are upsetting to those of us, who know that our blessings come from our commitment over the years to that nation. As we reveiw history we see that the statement God made to Abraham has come true. “Those that bless you will I bless, and those that curse you will I curse”.....

We are watching the culmination of the struggle, between his two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. However, knowing the outcome doesn’t make it any easier, for there are so many variables on these battles.

South America, that reminds me of Argentina internal wars, and I know nothing of Slovakia? I have heard the Phillipines are becoming a hot spot. There is someone on FR, who is in Southeast Asia, and I saw some pics in a magazine of the progress, buildings and unbelievable changes to a sophistication in some areas that boggles the mind.

The USA is giving away it’s future, and not keeping up by improving our own way of life, and I believe in giving. We have some foolish politicians, and we need to focus on internal issues, as much as protection and change in other countries. Our giving is counterproductive now.

“Ireland is one of countries I had considered, but it’s because I am Scots-Irish”

I am also Scots-Irish. My mother’s parents were Irish.
My father’s family, however, had been in the US for quite some time. My great great great uncle was Uncle Sam, Troy NY
and war of 1812.

Yes, America will never again be the country as I grew up in.
Every day I give thanks that I left when I did.

I enjoyed my days in Slovakia. It is a nice country and very well run. It is a diverse country with Bratislava on the Danube, and the high Tatra mountains to the east, providing great skiing and nature.
I worked as a private tutor of English conversation, working about 20 hours per week in banks and businesses.

Vienna is only an hour away, and the boarder is where west Europe meets post-Communist central Europe.

As for the Philippines, they are very third world and not for everyone, but they have become a hot spot for older single and retired men from Europe and the US.
The cost of living is a fraction of anywhere in the west.
I pay less then $100 per month for my furnished and air conditioned cottage at the beach, and in the best part of town. I go everywhere by bicycle, but there are also plenty of “C-cads” (small bicycle with sidecar) that cost about ten
cents to take you anywhere in town.
They also run errands. When I need a case of beer, I just text our driver and he comes running.

In my town, Dalguete, their are probably more European then American. www.dalaguete.gov.ph

To: F15Eagle; HANG THE EXPENSE

Misreading gauges, frozen pitot tubes, bad weather, no light, and then the tail just falls off.

Talk about your ‘bad luck’.

Someone else on this thread mentioned that the tail was found some distance away from the main body of the jet, and mostly undamaged.

Do you know if this is true, and how would that change the current (apparent) consensus that it was the pilots who caused the crash?

The news report from a couple days ago said that the plane crashed with the nose up at 15 degrees. The procedure to fix a stall is to, counter-intuitively, push the nose down so that air will catch the wings and defeat the stall so the pilots can regain control. The pilot did the opposite by keeping the nose up and the plane kept falling.

I think that plane crash, in Buffalo, a few years back was the result of the same type of pilot error.
