Even though the article states kids have been forced to eat the lunches provided by the government for six years, there is no information provided about the health and wellness of the kids.
Where are the results from the past six years? How is the obesity rate? How about the diabetes rate?

Not for nothing but this is probably why we have fat kids...I'll bet they would eat half the amount if they had to make or bring their own.
Lunch is a break from boring teachers for kids...eating is not their biggest care..

No longer are children with nothing but a Ding-Dong and a can of Coke in their lunchboxes forced to watch other children savor the nice, nutritious, home-made meals which their parents prepared for them.
The school administrators have achieved their goal: Equality of results.

Kid doesn't eat the vile state provided lunch. Comes home hungry and scarfs all the chips and sodas until he's full. As usual, the liberal prescription results in the opposite of it's intended effect.

Glad you posted this as I would have been embarrassed to be the first to admit that I had no idea that Chicago had made it illegal to brown-bag it to school.
I wonder if the real reason was so as not to shame kids who couldn't take the sort of lunch I used to take to school: two huge roast beef sandwiches and a can of orange soda. (This was long before there were soda machines in school. I froze the soda, and knew how to thaw it in my locker so that it was ready to drink whenever I was scheduled to have lunch. No chips and no fries either!)

That's because there's no way for them to collect the data.
Also, a lot of kids just throw the lunch away because it so totally sucks. It may be good for them to miss a meal once in a while and it may be good to miss some school lunches considering what has been demonstrated about its quality, but if, in a world where everyone brought his lunch from home, there were that many kids failing to bring lunches from home, there would be a bunch of CPS bureaucrats leading a movement to help these poor underprivileged children. When the CPS bureaucrats are causing the kids to go without eating because they're attempting to feed them crap, not a peep is heard.

In some, not all of them.

It’s not about children’s health, that’s just a tool of totalatarianism. It’s about Government power over your kids, and the circumvention of Parental Rights. It takes a village; therefore the children belong to the village not the parents.

Chicago is a sewer that deserves what it gets.
That being said we who care don’t deserve the rat plucked from the sewers of Chicago to sit in our Oval Office that hasn’t been so degraded since Billy Goat masturbated in its washroom sink.

Long ago my mother made home made cupcakes and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and gave us a nickle for milk. A lot of kids offered trade for my cupcakes. LOL Those were the days my friend....

Right on the money. To the heart. From the article itself, comes this telling quote:
"...Principal Elsa Carmona said her intention is to protect students from their own unhealthful food choices..."
We see this attitude at every level of government, city, state and federal.
IT HAS TO STOP.
