Good point. Any “dirty work” that needs to be done by civilian volunteers should be done by prisoners instead.

The point is to rid our country of invaders.
I have not gotten a ticket or been stopped by LEO in 31 years.
That is because I drive following the rules, and I don't go are looking like a Prep IE: Tattoos and Baggie pants.
I am not worried about LEO in my daily travels.

In the modern military-technological environment 2-year enlistees are basically useless for almost every job.

when the RATS had a super majority, they resurrected Charlie Rangel’s draft bill. It was an epic fail. I think Rangel even voted against it.
a draft I can take it or leave it. (I was drafted)
I wonder what would happen if an automatic draft enactment was added to the War powers Act ?
To: Strategerist
Okay, make the requirement three years then. :)

I don’t think we could afford to train up draftees to the current incredible standards our troops seem to be upholding anyways.
I mean, foot patrols above 7000 ft? With 70+ lbs. of weapons, equipment and body armor? Thats not a draftee - thats a hero!

This sounds a back-door way for Obama to get his shock troops that serve the state.

Why is “giving all Americans a common experience” a good thing? My ancestors didn’t come here to join a “common experience”, they came seeking freedom to do things their own way - from worshiping God to making a living.
These ideas are always from liberal leftists who think 12 years of indoctrination isn’t enough, because too many parents counter-program their kids, and what you really need is 2 years where you’ve got them all to yourself...

Why is giving all Americans a common experience a good thing? good point. My point was that, for better or worse, WWII for example, gave all men of that generation something in common. Certainly, gov't indoctrination isn't the way to do it.

His second greatest failing was that, despite his conservative credentials, he was far too willing to let big-government statists set domestic policy. His domestic initiatives and accomplishments include:
- starting affirmative action
- creating the Environmental Protection Agency
- creating the Occupational Safety and Health Admnistration (OSHA), which imposes burdensome regulations on businesses
- imposing a national 55 miles per hour speed limit
- imposing wage and price controls I
- Increasing funding for the National Endowment of the Arts, noted for funding obscene "art" projects
- iroposing the Family Assistance Plan, essentially a guaranteed annual income, which died in the Senate Finance Committee in 1972
On the domestic front, Nixon gave conservatives little to cheer about.

All should be drafted to work for the government. From each according to his abilities. To each according to his needs and I’ll tell you what your needs are. It’s time for the grey jumpsuits.

All people who earn an honest living are already serving America. The notion that only government service "really counts" is pure communism. Amen! Preach on, brother! The Founding Fathers would agree with you.

I agree - minimum two years in the military or “Americorps” type service.
I would also require at least six months duty in a third world country.
That’ll teach the ungrateful SOBs what a great country America is.
Yeah, just what we need - more government control over our lives. Of course leftist ideological indoctrination will be a mandatory part of this Americorps Service. Then the suitably prepared Obama-Jungend will be sent out on such tasks as house-to-house searches for evil incandescent lightbulbs and whatever else the leftwing wackos come up with now that they have all this excess manpower to pursue their dreams.
Serving in the military? “Listen kid, you can volunteer for the Marines, spend six months in basic training and the rest of your service in Afghanistan living in dirt, or you can volunteer for Americorps and wear a nice clean uniform and sleep every night in your own bed. The pays the same in either case, but in Americorps you'll spend eight hours a day working on a computer, going through old data in order to identify people who posted on Free Republic. When you find one we pick him up and put him in one of the hard-labor reeducation camps, and you get a nice monetary bonus. Catch five, you become an ace, and get to meet personally with President Obama and her husband, former President Obama.”
Sounds fantastic. If you've got any other bright ideas, shut up and keep them to yourself.

I agree. We’re not going to get the results we’re presently getting from people who don’t want to be soldiers.
And how would you like to be, for example, a nursing home resident who’s being cared for by conscript government workers? Bad as things are now in many nursing homes, they could still be a lot worse.

We’ve had involuntary military service in this country practically since the beginning.
Consider the Militia Act of 1792 which required military service of most males within a certain age range.
Consider the Federal Statute that places many within a certain age range in the unorganized militia even today.
Consider the various State statutes that place many within a certain age range in the unorganized militia even today.
Consider that the militia requirement if for decades, not just years.

If you've got any other bright ideas ...
It's amazing the number of cowards living in their parent's basement who post on FR.
Same amazement for the number of FR cop haters - who are usually the same as the aforementioned cowards.
Gen X losers.

This was a crazy idea when Bill Buckley floated it, and its still nuts. We do not need a draft for the military, and schools should all be privatized, anyway. Staff inner-city schools with Marines, and those kids will learn!*********************************
Agreed.
