You might check to see if the Salvation Army is going over to assist. They have a very good track record, much better than the Red Cross.
Salvation Army
I suspect we will very soon be bombarded with orgs and they will be vetted quickly. One thing for certain is that it will be safer than donating to Haiti.
Stay away from the Clinton/Bush crowd.
FOX just announced they have a list of reputable charities on their website. They must be reading FR.
I marked the Red Cross off years ago.
Whenever I donate to similar causes, it is through the Salvation Army.
I think they already have offices in Japan, too.
I have an acquaintance with direct ties to Japan and may have family there. Just sent a note to inquire whether family was directly affected by quake, but will not hear back until sometime tomorrow (unless she happens to be headed over there to help in person). Lutheran World Relief runs lean and mean when it comes to offering assistance of this kind, too. FWIW.
The Salvation Army has a special online donation page for Japan relief efforts. See link in upper right corner:

Southern Baptist Global Response is the best out there. They already have people in place and the money goes where it is supposed to go.
Also Catholic Relief Service!
Here is the link to their website and they have up a donate to Japan center and front on their site. they also have people right there!
OR JUST GOOGLE CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES
I would also donate to any legitimate RELIGIOUS group...usually the traditional ones...I am suspect of the televangelists on TV.
I would also think Billy Graham’s site Samaritans Purse would be good.
I usually donate to Samaritan’s Purse.
Catholic Relief Services = A
Catholic Relief Services beat the Salvation Army which got an A- and they are already international and likely already have feet on the ground.
Unfortunately this prick has already spent it on golf balls and Moochella's new purse! Impeach the bastard for treason and do it NOW!
I am waiting for George Clooney to host another candle lit vigil.
Oh, never mind.......
How about this:

Did a lot of disaster relief in Haiti. Never heard anythingbad about them.
One great way to give is through Samaritan’s Purse, Franklin Graham’s Christian Aid ministry that is already at work getting aid to the people of Japan. You can find more information at: www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/articles/pray_for_japan/
Another conduit for aid that I know about personally (a classmate from High School and seminary is one of their workers ON THE GROUND in Japan) is Asian Access. They have also set up a “Japan Tsunami Relief Fund.” Since they are already on the ground and established, their infrastructure and network will be helpful in getting aid to the people. More info at: www.asianaccess.org (click on “Japan Tsunami Relief Fund)
These are Christian agencies, as is Salvation Army. I just know they are reliable. Thanks for giving — pray for the people of Japan....
Samaritan’s Purse with Franklin Graham.
Those opportunists never want to waste a crisis.
it just begs the question, if I wanted $5.00 to go to help folks in Japan, just how much money would I have to 'donate' to agencies like the Red Cross, just to get the $5.00 there.
Glad to see the topic being discussed here as conservatives are known to be generous givers. We just seem to be more wise on getting our donation into the correct hands.
I’m thinking of buying a Japanese car...
