Kathy Griffin has never been one to shy away from controversy, especially controversy that involves Sarah Palin, even going as far as making weight jokes about Palin’s daughter, Bristol. It was also recently announced that Griffin would be playing a “a middle-aged ‘recent Tea Party candidate and home-schooler — a Sarah Palin type” on the hit show “Glee.”
One can imagine that all this might be wearing on Palin and in an interview with Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro, Palin let lose saying:
“You know Kathy Griffin can do anything to me or say about me, because you know, she’s kind of this – she’s a fifty year old adult – boy really is what she is. She’s kind of a has-been comedian and she can do those things to me. I would just ask for respect of my children. As she had stated on CNN that her new year’s resolution was to destroy my 16 year old daughter – that takes it a little too far. Kathy pick on me, come up to Alaska and pick on me, but leave my kids alone.”

Sarah’s words were slightly misquoted in the article. She said Kathy was a 50 year old adult Bully (not “boy really”) and a has-been. LoL
Kathy was the one who said she was going to take down Willow (16). Seriously, Kathy better not mess w/ those Palin gals. They’ll kick her fugly butt to the curb!

The Bush daughters were skewered by Leno and especially Letterman for their margarita escapades.
Laura Bush did not personally engage in public spats
with Leno and Letterman because she knew that there was no upside.
And no point in redirecting attention back to the original story,
which would only give it more publicity.
The comics tired of making fun of the Bush daughters because the Bush family did not keep pouring gasoline on the fire.
Their silence deprived the story of oxygen.

“Presidential” candidates or sitting Presidents who still have personal honor, do not fall prey to those petty personal attacks. They rise above it, and don’t give it the attention it seeks.
Only a mature and logical leader would understand this quality. One like Reagan. Who would never step into the Pig Pen with the Pigs and roll in the mud along with them.
Palin has been way too mature for way too long. It has permitted any and every body time to mature their opinions on her and to mouth off to the press. She gets ‘benevolent’ advice all the livelong day from such luminaries as Chris Christie. Well, now she’s telling them she’s had enough. She ought to discipline all and sundry. Maturity be damned, I’ll applaud her for it.

Willow Palin is a minor. Off-limits. Period.
Palin was right to say what she said, and how she said it. She said you can take me on, but not my child.
Remember when Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton were off-limits? That went out the window with Bush’s daughters.
And no, it did not endear me to President Bush when he did not go after the press for covering his daughters and making fun of them. A father protects his children. Hell, even Harry Truman came to his daughter’s defense.
A mature leader points out who is fair game and who is off limits. One who sets limits. Not act like a punching bag like Bush did for 8 years.
Setting boundaries and defending what’s right—that’s a trait I like in a leader. You know where they stand.

Silence, hoping that the bad guy goes away is never appropriate. The entire eight year Bush presidency is the best example of that. It's ironic that you used the Bush presidency as an example.
Anyway, the following Palin response to the Griffin question, minus the two words that I crossed out, is appropriate.
