People get understandably fatigued by Americas confessional culture, but insofar as this encourages abused kids to speak up and aim high, its all to the good. It sounds like the molestation took place over a relatively short period of time but the duration of the beatings is less clear. Probably not relatively short, though:
Brown told also Stahl that he endured brutal physical abuse by more than one stepfather and even considered purchasing a Wakefield home where hed been battered, just so I could burn it down.
I actually called the realtor and went in and took the tour and relived kind of where everything was to make sure I wasnt dreaming. As I left, I said, Man, I wish I had the money. Id just buy this thing and burn it down, Brown said.
He told Stahl that opening up about his tough upbringing, and revealing details that his wife and mother didnt even know about, was cathartic.

Why should I care?
So thanks for voting to end DADT, creep.
Is this why he voted for the START treaty? Because he was afraid Putin would beat him?
I agree, guess there are 2 kinds of people. Those who have been abused and those of us who can’t remember. :(
Yeah, that’s what I’d do if I had a big problem or some deep dark secret: gush it to 60 Minutes’ Leslie Stahl before telling my wife, my mother, my pastor, my best friend.
Watch for follow-up visits to Oprah, the View, Geraldo Live, the whole line-up of lefty hand-ringers and guilt merchants.
Then watch for the little “R” after his name, as Brown himself has phrased it, to become a little “D”. Then at last he will know he is among his own.
But decided he'd settle for just burning down the country instead.
And this needed to come out now...because...? I’m trying to understand. (Oh! I get it...Book-selling time!)
This explains much.
And...if true that his wife and mother did not know about the abuse...before he shared with Leslie Stahl...just speaks volumes about the man’s discernment/judgment. An absolute idiot in my book.

So, quit abusing the rest of us.
Well.. it didn't turn him into a blogpimp.
There's always that.
Doesn’t say much for his marriage, does it?
Get out the little violin and the bull shit meter, run this RINO out of the senate.
How unfortunate for Senator Brown. I’m sorry this happened to him.
Politically, does this mean that he’ll act like he has Stockholm Syndrome when he feels threatened?
I see this behavior in Senator McCain- don’t hurt me, let me understand you, let me help you. “You have nothing to fear from Obama, he’d make a fine president”, from memory but I think it’s close enough.
It sounds like his mother had crappy judgment in choosing sex partners. But we don't want to be judgmental.
Why would any man who had been sexually abused by another man favor more public promotion of homosexuality? Isn't that just crazy?
“I agree, guess there are 2 kinds of people.”
There are also those who have something to say and those that just have to say something.
