It was pandemonium in Tahrir Square in Cairo as the news spread like wild fire, Mubarak has stepped down! This was an unbelievable, awe inspiring event and perhaps one of the greatest moments in human history for people power.
Words can't explain the euphoria of so many people and political groups united in an almost delirious happiness. It was truly a watershed moment.
They should enjoy their great victory while they can because tomorrow when the sun rises there will be a new reality and a new beginning. The path they have chosen will have many twists hiding hijackers and bandits ready to steal their new found power.
Among the potential bandits is the political arm of Islam. These are the fundamentalists and this is exemplified by the Muslim Brotherhood. It is estimated that upwards of 20% of the Egyptian population supports this oldest of all fraternal Arab orders.
Leon Panetta, head of the CIA, tells us they are mostly a secular group and fairly moderate, which then begs the question why do they call themselves a religious organization and why are Egyptians so wary of them? And then there are other factions from Iranian sponsored Shiites, Al Qeada to Lebanon's Hezbollah, all vying for a piece of the action. But for now, the Egyptian army is in change and there is peace.
There is little doubt that the shift towards democracy will be messy, it always is; and it remains to be seen how many challenges and how much insecurity will be tolerated in their quest for freedom.
IBTZ , big-time.
And we know this how?
Because the media says so?
Leaders of all countries, including ours, should take note as to what the people can do if pushed to far.
Yeah, I agree with you. Who the heck is Jack Lee? IBTZ
It's been observed that a 60-day period is not a terribly long time for a new candidate to organize a campaign unless, of course, the new candidate has a highly evolved organization in place.
Like the Muslim Brotherhood, for instance.
Yup. Tell the 1917 Russians about it. As well as the 1978 Iranians. And the 1959 Cubans. Etc, ad nauseam...
Yes, "the shift towards democracy will be messy" ... and oft times nonexistent.
Besides, who wants a "democracy" anyways? That's mob rule.
What you want is a Constitutional Republic with democratic elections... We used to have one of those.
As for the military, who knows what their true allegiances are. The lesson of Turkey is that the military today is no guarantee against islamic fascism.
Frankly, I’m burned out on this story.
I’m more concerned with what is or more importantly what is not going on in this country.
Job - Economy - Obamacare -
Nothing good ever comes from Islam, including Islamic Democracy.
Jack L Lee sounds like a made-up name
I think diaper-head infiltrator

The useful idiots (young people brainwashed by academia, pop culture and the internet) do the heavy lifting and provide the bodies and votes needed to cause revolution. Obama did this in the US, with his willing lapdog media, and now the idiot Ipad-seeking Egyptian 19 year olds will usher in fundamental Islam.
The author, like all Liberals, is utterly celebrating what will be the 2nd cog in the Muslim push in the Middle East. Palestine, Syria, Turkey could all be next.
Whoever Jack Lee is...he’s a moron.
Always post blogs in the bloggers forum.
Do NOT post them in the news section.
Thanks.
"Hosni Mubarak resigns: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hails 'a new Middle East' Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday claimed the uprising in Egypt and removal of Hosni Mubarak heralded a new Middle East without the "satanic" influence of the West and that will doom Israel."
Right now, the MB still needs the sympathies and numbers of the communists. There will be time to purge them later when nobody's looking.
“They Did It”
Oh please. Anybody that believes this drivel is either a fifth grader or an idiot.
If Ahmadinejad approves then it is not in our best interest. I don’t understand how these people don’t get it...foolish.
