Bleak future for California, says new report

A report by the University of the Pacific’s Business Forecasting Center says that California can expect to see little change in the economic climate for the next three years. The Stockton, California based university’s forecast, released this week, concentrates on Northern and Central California, though it projects a statewide unemployment rate above 10 percent for the next three years. Currently at 12.4 percent, the rate is not expected to dip below double digits until 2014, when the school sees the number at 9.6, currently the national average. California has lost approximately 1.3 million jobs since the summer of 2007, when 15.2 million were employed. The San Francisco Bay Area remains weak, with unemployment ranging from 9.4 percent in the city to over 12 percent in Santa Cruz to the south and Vallejo north of the city. The East Bay, which lost what the report calls “a staggering 11.4% of its jobs over the past 3 years” is expected to show modest growth. Sacramento and the Central Valley will continue to bleed jobs in 2011, although at a lesser rate than in 2010. Unemployment in Merced is pegged at 19.2 percent.

I would say any area experiencing a lethal disease epidemic has a pretty bleak future and California has the worst disease ever formed....liberalism.

Will not see better times for THREE YEARS? I’d say that was good news considering how screwed up things are.

Heck, any light at the end of the tunnel for a state or nation that is as messed up and with a governor and legislature like Kalifornia with an invasion of blood sucking leech aliens, greedy unions, tree-hugging freaks and other assorted nuts is a Friggin’ Miracle not to be believed!

Good luck with getting better in three or thirteen years if ever!

As for the collection of good folks in the outlying areas... another state might be a good idea for you.

With all due respect, what were you expecting? Until the kenyan is gone, America will not recover. California may never recover. High tech is leaving, manufacturing is almost gone, too many illegals, too liberal.

Maybe if people canceled TV they may get back to reality while hurting the propagandists pocketbook.

Americans anymore are like Octomom.

Actually, I would expect things to get a good deal worse over the next three years. The debt is unsustainable, income is dropping, and things will inevitably get worse, even if they do make a few minor cuts here and there.

The only upside to this is that the Demons and can't blame the Republicans this time, since they hold all statewide offices.
(Not that they won't try)

Many folks look forward to the time when CA crashes, because they falsely believe it can rebuild and have a fresh start.

Hate to pop that bubble, but the fact is that after the crash, CA will still have the same cast of characters to satisfy........... almost one third of the US welfare cases, more public employees than any other state (most unionized), a permanent majority dem state-house and a plurality of liberal voters. Oh, did I mention the largest contingent of illegals?

That Sir, is a desperate rationalization in search of a ray of sunshine and hope in an otherwise impenetrable gloom of futility.

Good for you! If you are in Kalifornia leave, if you are not in Kalifornia, don’t go there! I think it is destined to be a ghetto of miscreants and over taxed clueless sun-worshiping, lifestyle cultists.

At this moment I’m in Oceanside just north of San Diego, about to enjoy a steak dinner. Very nice area here, too bad the state’s politics are so rotten. Maybe Orange County will secede from California and form its own state someday.

California may be finished. It's the demographics stupid. My grandfather use to call people "makers" and "takers". He was uneducated in economics at an academic level but he had a better intuitive understanding of the way economies worked than just about anyone I've ever met. "Makers" and "Takers". This is California's problem. There simply are not enough productive and contributing people to pay for the welfare they have voted for.

The last election convinced me that the situation is dire. Most of the rest of the country "gets it" or is starting to "get it". The average California voter is simply nuts. The situation is worse than even this article suggest. California may indeed be terminal.
