Fox’s Brit Hume: Sarah Palin Is “Kind Of Radioactive”
Mediaite ^ | 1/16/11 | Matt Schneider

Posted on 01/16/2011 2:50:12 PM PST by markomalley

As more pundits react to Sarah Palin’s video response on the Arizona shooting, Fox’s Brit Hume professed he’s never in his life seen someone receive such vicious media coverage as Palin and attempted to broadly define the “Sarah Palin Problem” on Fox News Sunday.

Before Hume summed Palin up, Fox commentator Juan Williams shared his bewilderment over Palin’s tone and word choice in the video, and thought the whole thing was “unnecessary.” This “just gave her opponents such an opportunity then to excoriate her . . . and did not raise her stature,” Williams concluded. Brit Hume offered up his own perspective:

“The Sarah Palin problem really is a problem that she has largely, I think through no fault of her own, become kind of radioactive. And it does mean that when she is in a situation like this where she’s the focus of national attention, she must be extremely careful about how she reacts to it.”

Hume believes on balance this video didn’t help her and especially given the media’s “derangement syndrome” with trying to character assassinate her, would expect Palin to be more thoughtful with her public statements. Odd that throughout this whole ordeal, by far Palin’s strongest and unwavering supporter has not been any of her Fox News co-workers and instead has been MSNBC’s lonely conservative Pat Buchanan.

Palin has done something precious few have ever done in modern times... she refuses to cower before the might of the media, the might of the establishment, and the might of the ruling class.

help me out here......what was so wrong with that speech? it was a robust defense of Free Speech but respectful to focus on the victims, the only criticism she levied was at the media which many people would consider in her right since she was accused by them to be involved in murder, it was not directly pointing fingers at Obama, not even the dems!!

Yet it was called divisive and descending into almost hate!

It is not Sarah Palin that needs to be torn down, politically destroyed and mocked without legitmate reason. Rather, it is our media, POTUS Obama, his “Hate America” Democrat Party and numerous RINO Republican “Whimps” that needs to be flushed down the political toilet into forever obscurity that they so richly deserve.

>> Brit’s comments were pretty objective <<

Dangerous thing to say, in view of the fact that so many FReepers have declared FNC to be the enemy. You may get the zot any moment now!

“Actually I see it as Palin resiliency is the problem, and its a problem for her liberal detractors.

They’ve thrown everything at her and she’s still standing. And they are continuing the attacks showing their own bullheadedness.

And that sounds like...Anyone....Buehler, Buehler?

Ronald Reagan was hit with everything the Dims had to offer in unrelenting attacks. He smiled and kept on going - drove the Dims absolutely crazy.

Brit Hume was spot on with his comments. Sarah Palin is one of the most unfairly smeared politicians in American history, and the media has been largely successful in their concerted efforts to destroy her image. Any slip-up on her part, no matter how minor, will be amplified tenfold by the national news media.

Let me clarify Sarah’s problem with the liberal media. Reagan is dead. Bush is retired to Texas, and millions of hate-filled liberals were left without a focal point for their anger until Sarah came along. They still hate Reagan, and they still hate Bush, but it’s just not the same as hating someone they can destroy, or think they can destroy. The problem is magnified for media liberals whose job it is to assault conservatives and conservatism with every breath. They need a relevant target, someone whose destruction will mean something to them, someone who makes news. They need Sarah.

Brit Hume is just another one of Karl Rove’s stooges for Romney. Brit hates the Tea Party and everything it stands for. Why is anyone surprised that he lashed out at Palin just like all the other whiny elitists?

This thread has had a lot of comments anti-FNC. I suspect the majority of these comments are coming from deep sleepers, people who were never Conservative in the first place but registered, probably at someone’s direction, and are now discharging their assignment - Kill FNC!

They probably have a better alternative to offer, like CBS.

Damn Brit, you could have fooled me. I thought that her comments were very thoughtful. But then I'm not a Washington D.C. homie like you guys are and probably just don't understand all the nuances and such. /sarc

Brit Hume is not a jackass. If you read the excerpt, you will see that he said that if was "through no fault of her own". And he is right. The media have done such a job on this woman, and her family, that she is "radioactive".

I have been paying attention to politics all of my life. My family was always interested and there were a lot of conversations about it. In all that time, I have never seen the kind of treatment that Sarah Palin has endured over the past three years. Also, I have never seen anyone's minor children treated in such a shameful manner. However, it has taken it's toll on her (as Mr. Hume stated) through no fault of her own.

I have been sitting at the table with the liberal left for more than 20 years. Call me brittle, but I am tired of being told to stuff it. I am tired of representing the victim of a constant public battering by leftists who are allowed to spread their lies and demonize those I represent without any accountability. Western rural America is angry, along with many other groups who are disnfranchised by the liberal machine and told to sit down and shut up in the name of civility when they assert their rights and interests. Be thankful for groups like the tea party that embrace traditional political approaches to change and recognize that they are serious about their grievances and that this is a healthy outlet for that anger as long as it produces some genuine relief. The last thing they need is to be told to stuff it.

So, so disappointed in Brit Hume.

Won’t watch Fox News any more now.

Sorry Roger Ailes, your “cool it” directive has cost you my viewership. I suspect it will cost you lots more in the coming months.
