The Left will probably consider Juan Williams remarks today on Fox as evidence that he does need a psychiatrist. He was asked about the resignation of Ellen Weiss, the NPR executive who fired Williams over voicing his concerns seeing Muslims on airplanes. It [NPR] has become very ingrown if not incestuous in terms of their perspective. She had executioners knife for anybody who didnt abide by her way of thinking.
I think she represented an ingrown culture in that institution thats not open to not only different ways of thinking, but angry at the fact that I would even talk or be on Fox, angry at the fact that people have different perspectives and a conservative perspective might emerge on Fox or NPR. To my mind this is good news for NPR and people who care about news in America.
Im telling you is they have a culture there that is not open to real news. Its not open to all points of view. Its not open to the real world around it and the many different dynamics and perspectives and stories that animate the news in America.
If they want to be Pravda, if they want to be issue propaganda
fine. I think everybody knows the real story here. The real story is you cant go around treating people like trash and pretending that anybody who has a different point of view is illegitimate.
Actually it would be on cable. PBS has programs like NOVA because the programs are subsidized with taxpayer dollars and are nearly free for them.
Take away PBS free programming and it would probably be done better by private production companies.
I agree with your position. If NPR was a far right channel, it has no business taking the money of taxpayers who do not share that point of view.
If NPR can’t earn enough on it’s own in the marketplace of ideas, then it will have to get some “fatcat” to fund it’s broadcasting. Surely there are enough of these on the left!
Funny
I love it
I sure hope it would be done elsewhere. Sitcoms and stupid "reality" shows are the commercial norm.
But you are right, nowadays, people can pretty much choose to see exactly what they want to see.
NPR and PBS need to go. They are totally egregious leftwing spews, mostly.
>Take away PBS free programming and it would probably be done better by private production companies.
It already is being done. The Science channel has plenty of shows along the lines of Nova and the quality is comparable if not better.
In all truth, if any of the programming had any real social worth or demand, they would not require the receipt of tax dollars to begin with.
It is not the responsibility of taxpayers to fund something that only a small sector of our society wants. Please note that I purposely did not say “needs”.
If you want to fund Nova or whatever else, you are perfectly free to do so with your own money. Please have at it.
Japan Calls Osama Carlos Mencia - Japan Calls Osama
LOL! You are SWEET!
That being the case, most of us were disgusted by his badly-handled and unnecessary firing from NPR and cheered by his immediate hiring at Fox News, where he helps provide balance, even if I usually don't agree with his views on any given political/cultural subject. That Williams is now telling the truth about the fetid, leftist-lockstep political atmosphere at NPR - and by doing so offering a very good reason to de-fund it - is commendable and not unexpected. Williams was treated badly by NPR and is not a liberal robot that will defend anything leftist, no matter what. He even concedes a political point once in awhile on the often contentious 'O'Reilly Factor'. Something very few liberals ever do, no matter how obviously wrong they are - which is always. So, kudos to Juan for his honesty on this one.
If NPR was conservative the libs would never allow it to exist with taxpayer money.
Aw, :)
Well that’s the difference between principle and expedience.
Don’t forget that Juan had no problem being part of that fascist bunch until he got targeted. If they’d fired someone else he’d still be there defending them.
Pravda doesn’t work in the private sector.
The whole liberal movement is a bunch of inbred intellectual hacks going thru the same mental masturbation routine that they’ve done since the 60’s.
The science channels seem to be devolving into monsters, catastrophe and ancient alien channels.
I guess that’s what grabs an audience.
NOVA broadcasts its share of globalony propaganda.
In his autobiography My Grandfather's Son, Clarence Thomas commends Juan Williams for being the only prominent liberal "journalist" who treated him fairly during Thomas' Supreme Court confirmation process and the whole sordid Anita Hill episode.
lolz
Id oppose tax payer funding for NPR even if it broadcast my point of view 24 hours a day.
You make an excellent point. However, wouldn’t it be funny to use the fairness doctrine to get an equally funded conservative radio station that is nationally broadcast? I think that is only fair....and fun to see them throw fits about it.
