I've been complaining for some time now that the label Republican In Name Only, and its acronym, RINO, are ineffectual to say the least.
My topmost reason is that a dichotomy exists in the word republican. Conservatives think of republicans as representing the people who elected them, with an eye fixed on protecting and preserving the American constitution with its limits on government and its recognition of personal rights. Progressives think of republicans as elitist and doing what they think is right no matter what the common folk think, and "The Constitution is only a piece of paper."
When conservatives see the "Progressive" subversive wing dominating the party and the decisions it makes, they get really rankled. But simply using the term RINO and intending that to be taken as disparaging by the arrogant politicians does not get the job done. The elitist either laughs at the ill-conceived acronym or looks down at the one who hurls RINO and sniffs "that's the kind of know-nothing who needs me to make the decisions." The elitist may be slightly annoyed by our intentions, but is neither insulted nor embarrassed.
So here's the contest. Come up with a variety of suggestions for an acronym to replace RINO. Here's some guidelines.
I'll decide which new acronym gets $100 from me. My decision is final. I do not yet have a closing date for this contest. I'll decide that soon.
SKUNC also has versatility:
PF is grateful to blog owners who have endorsed this campaign.
I agree that the “RINO” label is stale and meaningless from overuse and misuse. It’s got to where it’s like being called a “racist” - - brings nothing but yawns and eyerolls anymore.
Forget the acronym thing - - just call them “squishes”. “Moderate” Republicans run like scared bunny rabbits from the scumbag Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms (yes, even still in 2011) and tend to do their pandering from the “middle of the road”. That’s where things get squished.
Hence, these “moderate” Republicans are “squishes”.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve taken to calling them.
These characters are not all created equal, and Rino was never an accurate acronym. look at the fiscal matters alone and they are not RINO.
Ditch RINO,it is totally inaccurate, and give Pubbies like Graham or Collins,Snow, and Murkowski the Percentages where they actually vote along with the pubbie Platform.
I am sure Freepers can come up with the right numbers accurately portraying those that are constantly straying afar.

You may be right --- but it sure is fun anyway!!!! LOL
My old friends (some of whom I’ve not pinged in a very long while).
There’s a contest, for which I’m springing $100 (and to which another blogger has added $25) to come up with a new and more accurate, vitriolic and imagery acronym for the craven, disloyal, self-serving, anti-American global elitists who were formerly and mistakenly called RINOs.
Details of the contest requirements are repeated in this thread starter. Entries are should be entered at the blog here:

Have fun.

like a BAD PENNY, they keep showing up?
Were it easy to label bad pennies, the public would have taken them out of circulation long ago.
Sorosians
If even popular conservative writer Mark Steyn couldn't bring about the acronym's acceptance, the reason must be that it is not good enough. Could be because of too many syllables. Probably because it is not harsh enough. (Even Democrats -- having been taken over by elitist demagogues -- are no longer democratic.) Maybe because it's Spanish.
The top of our entire political system, both parties, has been co-opted by the same moneyed global interests. Don't believe that ours are the only national borders being effaced. Look what is happening to them in Western-based nations world wide: Europe, UK, Australia, NZ. Meanwhile, the tyrannies let out their storm troops while deepening the enslavement of the bulk of their populations. SKUNCs fits the world-wide operatives -- so what do we call the traitorous members of the GOP? Even if the Dems were well-known by all Americans as monsters, DIABLO sounds devilish, and not demonic.
Conservatives may never, as a group, agree over a new acronym to describe the rotters whom we formerly called rinos. I've given you good reasons why I've arrived at the opinion that it needs to be nastier than DIABLO. It must convey the traitorous nastiness of the miscreants to whom it refers.
Does it have to be fit for ‘mixed’ company?
.
Sorosians would convey too how Soros has been able to fund both parties (and NGOs and other subversives) and not be stopped by campaign funding laws let alone other laws. The fox’s funded agents are guarding the hen house.
