Preparing for the End of the World: Making Your Family Tough
Human Events ^ | 11/30/10 | Skip Coryell

Posted on 11/30/2010 5:47:13 AM PST by Kartographer

In the opening article of this series I painted the following picture:

Close your eyes and imagine a world without electricity: no Fox News, no facebook, no email, no Blackberry, no cold drinks, no heat in the winter, no automobiles, no food and no way to cook it even if you had it. It’s the end of the world as we know it (TEOTWAWKI) and you and your family are going to die.

That’s a pretty bleak picture. But I left you with a little hope.

I clarified it by saying: “Unless, of course, you are prepared.”

I’d rather be around to help my kids as much as possible.

“I dont think God HAS to do anythink. History tells us that He often does NOT intervene.”

I would agree. He helps those who help themselves.

“He promised to never leave us nor foresake us.

And to proved all we NEEDed.

He is faithful to His promises regardless of circumstances or appearances from our perspective.

David said he’d never seen the righteous foresaken nor their seed begging bread.”

Again, He helps those that help themselves. You cannot sit around praying all day and night long and expect a miracle, not when you sacrifice work and common sense things like going to the store, reasonable hygiene, reasonable security measures, etc. To do nothing for yourself - with the tools that HE gave you - is an invitation to disaster.

Take a listen to the following, particularly the last line: http://www.moviesounds.com/fmj/miracled.wav

Besides, Quix, there is no guarantee for any one individual - His guarantee not to forsake us applied to the entire Jewish People, NOT to each individual Jew. That there were righteous Jews who perished in the Shoah (along with righteous Catholics and others) is beyond question. Yet my faith is not shaken, though righteous individuals suffer, because His promise has been kept (and always will be) for the entirety of His people.

I’ll keep prepping, thank you. Just bought 6 pounds of pasta this morning for only $4.50 - a nice little addition of more than 10,000 calories of long-duration food for not so much money. I do that a lot - buy a few bucks worth of food, medical supplies, ammo, whatever - it spreads the pain over time, esp. if the stuff is on sale. I don’t have a year’s worth of food yet, but I’m going in the right direction. My family and I will at least have a better chance of living until some kind of societal recovery vs. simply praying for some food to be “miracled” to us.

Evidently you haven’t read my thousands—literally—of posts over the years on FR

encouraging folks most energetically to prep.

Sigh.

No, haven’t read all of your posts. But having read those of yours in this thread since the one I replied to has cleared things up.

Really!? I thought dry ice was used to displace the oxygen. I did not know it was effective against bugs. I thought about using dry ice on my next round of buckets, and sure would appreciate any tips you would care to share.?

Dry ice is effective against bugs because it displaces oxygen (air, actually). The critters need to breathe also, and breathing in almost pure CO2 isn't a recipe for long life.

Just a suggestion, goats are a flock animal and will be very insecure if only 1, I would suggest at least 2 for company....they will do better...they also need to be protected from predators and stray dogs....depending on what part of the country you live in, check into the type of salt they need...here in Michigan I had to have specific salt (I think it was selenium) because the great lakes area does not have the salts that they need that that would get from what they eat...(Like for humans, there is no iodine in the soil that's why you have iodized salt)

Thats good to know, I was thinking one or two, my better half was thinking one, two it will be.
I’m not sure which breed I want yet but hope to find some local breeders. Most of my place is fenced with field fence and topped with barbed wire, plus I have a couple of jennies who would protect them, once they got to know the goats as theirs. Thanks again Goat Granny!!!

I was going to write it up (or find it, it’s somewhere on my computer) for you but today got away from me.

Freepmail or ping me tomorrow or whenever you have time to remind me in case I forget.

I’m going to do another batch soon. It’s really simple and works if you do it right, I do water bath canning every year so I’m familiar with basic canning methods and so on. You don’t water bath this, though. But it seals and keeps well when done properly.

They say you can can cheese, too! Never tried it but maybe I will just for educational purposes.

People have been talking about the end of the world since the beginning of time. Sooner or later one of you guys are going to be right.

In the meantime, my only future plan is to take my dad out for breakfast in the morning.
