Charles Krauthammer Rips Liberal Media for Being Obsessed with Sarah Palin
News Busters ^

Posted on 11/27/2010 8:52:51 AM PST by Def Conservative

Charles Krauthammer on Friday tore into the liberal media for being obsessed with former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

After Krauthammer scolded the "editorial judgment" of the producers of PBS's "Inside Washington" for week after week prominently displaying her as the "only representative of conservatism of any importance" in this nation, the Washington Post's Colby King proved his point (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Seriously, which conservative specifically has a better overall chance of winning in 2012 than Sarah in your opinion?

I don’t know if she should dial it back, but the hero worship of her by some definitely should be dialed back.

She is a politician. Everything she does and everything she says is not calculated always to a conservative’s best interest or the country’s best interest. There is not one politician that wouldn’t promote a policy, a person, or an action that I wouldn’t agree with to suit their political best interest. Yes, even Reagan did it.

The principled ones do have a point where they won’t go. With Bush he refused to pull the troops. I don’t know what Palin’s line is she wouldn’t cross but I’d like to know before we have to vote in the primaries. I’d like to know what that line is for all of those running before we have to vote.

There are people wondering if not Palin then who. I don’t know!

Just because I don’t know who that person is right now doesn’t mean I have to fall all in with your favored candidate. I don’t see one person out there I have some faith in as a conservative that I think could win. All I see are people who have a strength in one or two areas dividing loaylties among the electorate that will vote and to tell you the truth I’m scared we’re going to end up with another McCain because I don’t see anyone we’ll easily unify around. It’s possible that person is right in front of us (and we’re blinded to it) and circumstances will reveal that person to us a year from now. Maybe events on the ground will change and soeone who seems a hard sell will suddenly be a perfect choice. Or someone not even on the radar will surface. But if it stays the way it is now some people are going to have to swallow their ego or principle and accept someone they don’t want to be the nominee if they want to win and I’m not convinced the Republican prmary voters can be unified by hatred of Obama to do that. It worked for Bush against Gore but I don’t think it’s going to work here.

I’ll tell you something. If a Republican candidate came out and said they were only going to run for one term, they’d be the one to instantly jump into front runner status for me.

“Baloney. Sarah is attracting the greater share of public attention and frittering away her chances.”

Do you always just fall for the MSM baloney?

Either you fell for it hook, line and sinker or you agree with it.

“Palin Derangement Syndrome is effecting her supporters too.”

Oh, I’m sure you know all about PDS..

No matter who you have to sacrifice along the way?

I hope I’m never next you in a fox hole.

I don’t know as much about Barbour as I’d like to. I know how he managed how Katrina affected MS, and I’m duly impressed. More recently, I saw him put Chrith Matthewth is hith plaeth, and I liked that performance a lot. But something that one of our cohorts said about him resonates for me. “He looks like a walking heart attack.”

“I am pro Palin and defend her every time I get a chance. I’m just saying she’s over exposed. If she has ambitions, she should dial it back some.”

I’ve been saying the exact same thing for a while now. Too much exposure, and the type of exposure she’s getting, is cheapening her image. I’ve been pro a Palin presidency since I first heard heard her speak, and that hasn’t changed. Even before that, when I heard the press release when Trig was born, I was impressed. Still, I would like to see more dignity and less silliness.

Why have we not heard reports about how relatively vacant the airports were this holiday. Family accounts are that the airports were sparsely populated.

I was wondering about that. My son and I went to the Charlotte airport a couple weeks ago to pick up my wife. We sat at the overlook to watch the planes land and take off. In 90 minutes we saw 3 planes land and one take off. The last time I was out there they were nose-to-tail on takeoffs and landings.

She picked a feud with Barbara Bush?

Not thinkin’ so.

She responded to a catty remark with a far less catty one.

I love it that she responds to all the slurs and insults.

Duncan Hunter was my choice last time, but he couldn't even get his name in the news. Nobody I talked to knew who he was.

Palin energized the conservatives in about three minutes after her introduction by McCain. I knew who she was before that, but never thought she would go on the national scene.

Hey, thanks. MUCH calmer now, lol. Read your homepage. I’m impressed with your background. I guess you know then, that when I referred to ‘wimps’, I wasn’t talkin’ about you. You were just my venting/sounding board. ;~))

We lived in Logansport for a couple of years after my dad retired from the Air Force. He was rooting around, trying to figure out his second career. His engineering degrees finally sent us up this way, NW Indiana. Typical military brats, all four of us were born in different states. I arrived in Texas.

As to Sarah Palin and the media obsession with her..... As long as they believe she has a chance of being the nominee, they’ll keep hitting her. They want to KILL her dead in her tracks. Among those mentioned as possible candidates for the Repubs, are ambitious, clueless SOB’s, and THEY want to stop her just as badly as the loony left and the dims do. So, they back stab, anonymously leak inaccurate stories about her ..... belittle everything she says and does. Heck, they just totally make stuff up.

The media, and these nameless, cowardly R’s won’t let up, won’t stop ‘obsessing’ about her until they are certain they’ve killed her chances....

I am so disgusted by so many people right now. Especially those of ‘us’ who are willing, so willing, to believe the garage spewed out by the media.

Too much exposure, and the type of exposure she’s getting, is cheapening her image.

Under normal circumstances were Sarah Palin a "normal celebrity" you both may be right. Now that the Elites and Left have failed epically to marginalize Palin, you fear perhaps their "strategy" is now to "over-expose" her. Or that she's doing so herself. NOT happening.

Her "over-exposure" is NOT due to mindless TV drivel; daily political irrelevant, or hawking product lines for-profit. Everything she does is POSITIVE - that is contagious. Even to the Left.

Sarah Palin is an iconic phenomenon that has transcended "normal" or a "fad" - but ironically NOT of her own doing.

The Media Elites originally tactically personified her to ridicule as representative of conservative America. To say it was a gross miscalculation is light years beyond an understatement.

Palin is a pop icon, political icon, a conservative icon, an American icon.

Much of her ubiquitous popularity (or notoriety in some circles) can be attributed to representing the following all at once:

Joe Six-Pack
Mom's Apple Pie
Judah Ben-Hur
Darth Vader
Annie Oakley
Audie Murphy
David (of Goliath biblical fame)
Ronald Reagan II
A Tiny Fey caricature
A Hollywood pin-up
A female Jerry Falwell
An American William Wallace
The Statue of Liberty

In other words, she's both a Lightning Rod and Legend. There is no such thing as "over-exposure" in a sense that folks will grow tired of her. Sarah Palin will NOT be going away unless she wants to.

I as right wing as you can get and reflexively defend conservatives under attack, but I’m tired of hearing her.

Sarah has a problem. She’s has a grating voice and personality. Enough already.

“Please define overexposed?”

She’s on Fox as a commentator and on that dope Hannity’s radio show practically everyday. Then there’s her reality show whose purpose escapes me. Then the kid is on dancing...then she picks a feud with Barbara Bush. Enough already.

HEH! Palin "picked a fight" with Babs Bush? The same Babs Bush who politely suggested on national TV that Palin stay the hell away from national politics? Are you purposely disingenuous, or just defending Babs out of loyalty to the Bushes and other Rockefellian elites?

The "purpose" of her reality show is to showcase the beauty of Alaska to the rest of us, and lifestyle of normal family life (instead of contrived orgiastic mutant "real life".)

Palin's political voice speaks for many of us on a daily basis - I don't care whose show she's appearing on.

Oh..."the kid" on DWTS - you mean "Bristol," right? Maybe you feel she should just stay at home and collect a welfare check? And how dare Mom Sarah show up to support her daughter for the show...

I understand your general displeasure and "problem" with her voice.

Your only options are to avoid FOX News, Palin's Alaskan TV Show, and Free Republic threads regarding Palin.

Other than that, Plan B will have to be leaving the planet on the next space ship, or applying ice freely. With all due respect.
