CBS Affiliate KTVA Caught Conspiring Against Joe Miller

It’s been suspected for some time now that the Alaska media has been playing favorites in their coverage of the Senate race between Joe Miller, Lisa Murkowski, and Scot McAdams. Media bias is one thing, but what Anchorage CBS affiliate KTVA go caught doing is even more outrageous. Their reporters were overheard on on voicemail actually plotting stories to release that would trash Joe Miller’s campaign.

As a recovering journalist, the real “smoking gun” in the KTVA tape can be heard at the beginning of the conversation. The first, unidentified female reporter tells a colleague to “use his judgment” and wait to see if someone shows up.

That someone, as we know, was a sex offender. Either KTVA was tipped that someone with that sort of criminal past was going to be at the rally or—even worse—someone at the station was conspiring with an offender to show up, providing the station with the desired “gotcha” moment.

Under either scenario, KTVA would have been a party to a crime. Most sex offenders are under standing orders to avoid certain locations and events that would put them in close proximity to women, young children, or any other demographic group that should (rightfully) fear their presence. Political rallies certainly fall under this criteria. So, a sex offender going to a campaign rally would be violating terms of his/her probation, and KTVA staffers would be culpable if (a) they conspired with an offender to attend the rally, or (b) knew the offender was planning to attend, and failed to notify police, not to mention the Miller campaign.

This one is far from over. And I can’t wait to see who was in cahoots with KTVA to torpedo Joe Miller. I won’t mention likely names, but it begins with a bitter, defeated incumbent who flunked the Alaska bar exam four times.

Who knows, maybe the Joe Miller page should be similarly updated.
