Apparently so, via Kyle Hopkins at the Anchorage Daily News:
I'm sitting at the Division of Elections office here in Midtown, where more than a dozen people have filed this afternoon to run as write-in candidates for U.S. Senate.
KFQD 750 AM radio host Dan Fagan, a backer of Republican nominee Joe Miller, has been urging voters to sign up in an act of "civil disobedience" -- defying what he calls the courts' illegal decision to allow a list of write-in candidates at polling places.
The ruling is expected to aid Sen. Lisa Murkowski's write-in bid. The idea of the mass registration is to create a long list of potential write-in choices and make it harder for voters to find Murkowski's name.
The deadline for registering as a write-in candidate is the close of business today.
"I'm signing up to become a senator," a man in a hoodie said into his cell phone. An Anchorage woman who said she was upset with the court ruling wheeled in her oxygen tank, asking if she could sign up to run for both federal and state office.
More soon.
UPDATE: Make that about two dozen people.
I'm not sure about the Dan Fagan connection. I thought this was Dan Riehl's idea. But as Reagan once said, there's no limit to what can be accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit. If there are any more readers in Alaska, get down to the Division of Elections and join the party.
Update: Hopkins has updated his article to include the following information:
The Anchorage office received 56 Senate write-in applications -- in person or by fax -- in just 45 minutes, said election clerk Raymond McAndrews at 5 p.m.
Question for our Alaska readers: Are there Division of Elections offices other than the one in Anchorage? If so, how many more write-in applications have been received on top of the 56 in Anchorage?
Does anyone have a final total on how many people signed up to be a write-in Candidate?
A very smart response.
People should sign up to be on the write in candidate list under names like:
Lissa Muhrkouski, Lisa Merkowski, Liza Murkowski, and Lisa Murkowskii..... (you get the idea)
I heard on FNC that if the name is misspelled on the ballot, it doesn’t count.
its not bias if rhinos do it.
I can just see the headlines now.
“Alaskans greet their newest Senator, Louis Nukowski”
He ran on the beef jerky and home brew platform.
I hope she comes in a far distant third and those that backed her are weeded out of Alaskan politics.
These days the only way to counter Alinsky is OUT-DO Alinsky.
Do unto others before they do unto you.
Did you register? That will be a good momento, list of write ins.
This is a nation of laws, but when the judges decide they rule the people they better get ready for a really bumpy ride.
You Alaskans get ALL the fun! lol
Would be really funny if anyone registered as Frank Murkowski. Imagine being done in by your own father’s name! Haha!
I hope there are a lot of write-in names like Liza Michowki, Leisa Merkofsky, Leila Murchuski, Lily Merquoursi...
This is awesome I promoted the idea through new media today: Facebook, Tea Party Patriots.
That’s right even if they get just 1 vote.
This should be fun. In doing some quick research, it seems that no matter what your lawfulname is, you get to designate what you want put on “the ballot” (in this case the write in list).
Cant wait to see it.
Holy smokes I’m laughing my butt off. Seeing Americans stand up and fight is just incredible. I love this country and my fellow conservatives! Thank you Alaskans! Now how can I get a copy of that list as a souvenir?
LOL
Good for them.
I agree txhurl. We are fighting a political war for our national survival. If we loose this nation will turn into a cross between Detroit and Beirut. There is not one doubt that righteousness is on our side.
We need to turn every underhanded thing they’ve done to us in the last 50 year right back at them. The left is “The Man” now and we are taking him down from the inside! Power to the people!
Woo-Hoo!
