He has explained the faith of our American founding fathers like no other in the media. He has exhaustively investigated the current and historical problems with socialism in the U.S. and abroad. He has rallied hundreds of thousands for the 912 Project and the Restoring Honor mass meetings, all the while pointing people to their Creator through, specifically, Jesus Christ.
How amazed I was to watch a possibly ill or exhausted Glenn Beck say on his Monday TV program (after taking off from the radio) that, "I am not talking about a specific religion, just 'God'... whatever you define as God." All of a sudden, Jesus, it seems, has been superseded by Mahatma Gandhi, who Glenn, early in the show, pointed to as a guy who "I should talk to." After he admitted that he was very tired, Beck stared at a giant picture of Gandhi then remarked that "the answer is from this guy."
Glenn admitted that he was just starting to study Gandhi simultaneous to studying the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Christian martyr who rebelled, unlike so many Protestants and Catholics in Nazi Germany, against Adolph Hitler - and paid dearly for it. Bonhoeffer was thought to be involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler, so was summarily hung for his defiance, if not for plotting against Hitler, then for his Christian based resistance to the Third Reich.
Beck went on to explain that Bonhoeffer sought inspiration from Gandhi, which is doubtful. Gandhi derived his philosophy from the Buddhist/Hindu tenants which deny the use of violent force - for any reason. IOW Gandhi would not even violently resist Hitler, I guess.
Gandhi believed in Ahism - a term meaning to do no harm (literally: the avoidance of violence - himsa). It is an important tenet of the Indian Religions(Hinduism Buddhism and especially Jainism). Ahimsa is a rule of conduct that bars the killing or injuring of living beings. Hard to fight wars or enforce laws with such an ulta pacifistic code. Even the New Testament tells us in Romans 13 that "Rulers do not carry the sword in vain." Fortunately, in America every citizen is Constitutionally allowed to carry the sword.
"Gandhi teaches me the principles of love," Beck said during the end of the show. I really hope that he does not miss the point that, "God so loved the world . . . that he gave. . . " not a mere man like Gandhi, but He gave a Son of Man. Quite a different benchmark for showing love.
Glenn may be making the mistake of attempting to unite all religions under a generic godhead - "One God is as good as Another." IOW confusion.
Glenn Beck, as the rest of us, is on a spiritual journey and is looking for answers. He has been a Catholic as I have, and is now a Mormon. I hope he finds out that Jesus is the Answer and that Jesus is the Way, and neither Gandhi nor anyone else can be.
” I hope he finds out that Jesus is the Answer and that Jesus is the Way, and neither Gandhi nor anyone else can be.”
Amen to this.
I like Beck but he’s starting to become an Oprah.
Yeah, that’s because people of ALL Faiths are listening.
He is resorting to the AA “higher power,” meaning the Creator, rather than narrowing it down to a specific faith. Not sure why anyone knowing Beck’s background would be surprised he’d use an AA analogy.
Nor am I sure how it hurts in a nation like the USA. Most of us, but hardly all, are “Christian.” And, one assumes his target is all Americans?
Now here is a blog pimp worthy of your attention.....
Yeah, I agree, thank God there are people like you who are PERFECT and are above reproach.
Some times this forum defines "stepping on you own dick"
No wonder we lose....incrementally.
Since Glenn embraces a different gospel and a different Jesus, it’s important to know the real thing, then simply use discernment when listening to him. It’s really that easy, except for those for whom that is impossible because they don’t know the real thing & can’t rightly divide the Word of God. Other than that, no problem.
LOL Too funny. Feel better?
So Beck`s sin is that he is addressing his thoughts to someone besides those who think EXACTLY as he does? I guess the Founders we always praise here were only founding the country for those who had PRECISELY their view of God, too. [And which Christian church was that, exactly, so those of us who don`t believe in the exact same views that of course all the Founders shared can stop thinking their ideas apply to us]. Good God, the fear of those who don`t share one`s beliefs 100% is suicidal. Good luck living in that world.
There are many parallels between Christianity, Bhuddism and Hinduism as far as the basic teachings of love and what you sow you reap, At the beginning of the Jewish faith God called man to him through being rightious under the law, as in with all paths, man being imperfect in his heart eventually failed to stay on track to His divine goal, life with God..God severed the paths and teachings he had made because all had failed to sincerely walk it..IN a display of Givine love Jesus knew the Father loved us and volunteered to come to die for our sins, as the holy would absorb the unholy that at least had enough strength, humility, and faith to proclaim Christ as their saviour..That no rituals, no works, nothing man could do would be enough to be worthy of the gift of eternal life with God, and God could not allow sin in Heaven w/o allowing destruction of the realm..it is also my personal belief which is not backed up by anything, that as God creates he calls all to himself that we may know of Him..I believe Jesus was the first creation of God and through His teachings became to know Him and love Him, God created Him to be His son as God creates to have relationships, friends, family, etc...In being His son God also made Him to be King of Heaven, in this way there would be rest for the Father because Christ is, was, and forever be capable of deciding all things in all realms..Holy...So what this means is that all paths of mankind are now merged in Christ, ie, if bhuddist, Hindu’s, muslims etc, will throw down their path and declare that the only path to God is Jesus, repent of sins and seek Him with all their Hearts, minds, and souls they may be saved..In this way God has chosen to restore man unto himself and teach the final lessons of His character...Jesus Saves, Mohammad, Bhudda, Hinduism and no other path have no validity except for past lessons..the only now is Jesus Christ...the only path to God..
There were signs he was like this at the 8/28 rally on the mall (if you were “awake” and paying attention).
I stopped listening to Glenn Beck.
Never put all your faith in a human. They will always fail you. Pick up whatever you need for yourself, and be ready to move on when it is time.
Janet Mefford had a very strong reaction about this ‘hidden speak’ as well. I forget what she called it, but it was something along the lines of it didn’t matter what God you believed in as long as you believed in one.
No, actually I don't.
I just came back from taking my dog for a walk, ventured on to the local screwell grounds and had some fat mexican bitch who could hardly speak English tell me she was going to call the cops on me.....she didn't even have the decency to ask me to leave but rather thought she could just be rude an threaten me with police.
That was until I told her to do it and that in return I would simply call immigration....needless to say, she disappeared, quick.
My point is this, I am disgusted with the kit and kaboodle and to see threads here that divide those who have a common cause for some petty differences really pisses me off.
Sorry if you have a problem with that....I want my Country back.
Keep in mind many of the founding fathers were Deists, not Christians. Thomas Jefferson went so far as to redact the New Testament to remove all supernatural events. He believed that Jesus was a great man but not Divine.
Sometimes I wonder if even our Founding Fathers could survive today’s conservative scrutiny. Beck is doing a LOT of good for this country, and since there is nobody absolutely perfect that will always say and do the right things ALL the time, to replace him, maybe giving him some slack is in order.
It’s ecumenical One World Religion (the religion of the Anti-Christ) if you ask me, Glenn Beck may be unintentionally spreading this message among “evangelical” Christians and the “right”.
We would never listen to a leftist liberal preacher like Jim Wallis or Jer. Wright (or any Universalist), New Age Socialist, etc in this One World Religion, but we heck of a lot might out of the mouth of a guy we thought we trusted (and who’s primary focus was politics/history) like Glenn Beck..Freepers/Conservatives (and those professing Christ) need to be careful..!
I agree. I love the guy, and I’m a faithful viewer. Lately, his show is just boring me to tears. I also get tired of his cutting the baby in half attitude. “The right and the left both stink on ice.” Beck should understand that the left wouldn’t tell him if his coat was on fire. O’Reilly’s the same way.
