Attention Malia and Sasha: The remote is in Mom's hands this Saturday, and she's sending a message to you and the rest of the nation's kids to "Go out and play."
At noon EST on Sept. 25, first lady Michelle Obama will tell Nick viewers to "get ready to shut down your computers, put down your cell phones and turn off your TVs." Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, Nick Jr. and TeenNick will then go off the air for three hours, according to the Associated Press.
The cartoon blackout is part of Nickelodeon's annual Worldwide Day of Play campaign, an annual effort to encourage families to get kids and families moving and off the couch. The network isn't goofing around and is turning screens black.
But take heart Nick fans, before and after this TV intervention, you can soak up six hours of back-to-back "SpongeBob Squarepants" episodes.
Meanwhile, "iCarly" poses this question to teen and tween fans on the Nick show's website: What's the best way to spend this Saturday?
Pranking Your sister/brother?
Sleeping all day?
Eating ice cream, nonstop?
Watching an all-new ICarly at 8 p.m.?
We know the answer in our house: All of the above.
It ain’t easy.
What?
Yes, you read that right: She controls the horizontal, she controls the vertical...
Can I call her a female dog on here without getting banned??
You mean a _itch?
“Big Bottom” is scared because six hours of SpongeBob SquarePants is likely to produce more literacy and independent thinking that six years of public school.
In fact, if we banned public school and mandated Looney Toons, SpongeBob and Rocky and Bullwinkle we’d end up with a more informed electorate.
Check the crime stats in the major welfare cities during the blackout and compare to the weeks before and after.
Warriors.....come out and playayyyyyy
Michelle Obama, go and screw yourself. Put your head in the toilet and start flushing it.
Only with subway tokens.....
This is all fine and dandy moochelle, but what about the children who cannot go out and play due to illness or some other circumstance?
I do not own a TV, I do not have children, I do not like this forced blackout. I am grateful that there are still other stations available for those who need them.
You kids out there need to watch football on TV with your old man and get hime beer and snacks whenever he asks.
Off topic, but he** yeah! Football is any team’s game right now. Sloppy playing.
I swear, my boy’s IQs jumped 40 points after they got out of school and started taking advanced degrees at The University of Dad.
I long considered Eleanor Roosevelt as the worst of the president's wives.
Congratulations Eleanor. You're now down to second place on my list the terrible thanks to this individual now serving as First "Lady" [quotes intentional].
Wont Tivo wofk ???
We already did all that she is suggesting.
But it is nice to have internet and tv cable on the homebound days.
