Here is video of Democrat Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Harry Reid voting “no” on the cloture vote to bring up the Defense Authorization Bill, which included amendments on getting rid of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and proposing passage of the “Dream Act.”
Reid was pushing for adoption of the bill and the amendments, but if you watch the video, you will see Blanche Lincoln enter the screen at the top right. She indicates her vote “no” on bringing up the bill. She then walks around to Harry Reid and pats him on the back while saying something to him. Then, notice that Reid walks back to his desk, faces the clerk and votes “no” on the bill!!!! The video then shows Reid’s sanctimoniuous comments later in which he slams Republicans for opposing the bill – when he voted against it himself!!!!
This just shows what a crass, political animal Harry Reid is. He knows he will get credit among Hispanics for his public comments pushing the Dream Act, but at the end he votes against the bill so he is officially on record opposing it. He hopes to get support and votes from both sides by his actions.

Not to say he isn't crass, but this move against expressed interest is simple parliamentary procedure.
It’s a procedural thing. If Reid votes “No” on cloture, as majority leader, he can bring the bill back up again for another try. If he had voted “Yes”, he couldn’t bring the bill back up. Thus, his “No”, was fake, so he can try to bring this up again. People who don’t know how the Senate works shouldn’t be writing blogs on stuff like this, as it makes our side look ignorant.
Well, when you’re pandering to a double-digit-IQ audience, you can get away with such stuff.

Boozman, Lincoln’s Republican opponent, should have this charming little clip in a campaign ad pronto. Lincoln and Reid, conspiring on how to get gays into the military and give amnesty to illegals....bet that will warm the cockles of Arkansans hearts.
Oh, I see. I was not aware of that he had to be on the winning side.
He’s still a crass political animal! The whole thing was designed to get votes from hispanics and to get him support from the Democrat base in November.

Blanche Lincoln knows she has but a short time left as a Senator and she’ll be history. It can’t happen soon enough.

Two months and Blanche will get the message she so richly deserves: You’re Fired!!
One of the main changes we need with the new Congress (coming) to to no longer allow many extraneous bills to be combined with other important bills. It’s high time that they have to vote for the bills stand-a-lone on it’s merits. Actually, all bill of any importance need to stand on their own and allow an up or down vote... Let the people have their say - no more pretensions.

That's not so. A failed cloture vote does not preclude bringing another cloture motion up on the same exact point. What failed to pass today was a cloture motion, and there is no limit on introducing cloture motions. A cloture motion proposed to limit debate. When a cloture motion fails, all it means is debate on the underlying point continues, until either there is no objection to voting, or 60 Senators force voting by first passing a cloture motion to limit debate.
Lincoln, Prior and Reid were no votes. All R’s were no votes, except Murkowski who did not vote.
See my above as to the fact that there is no limit to cloture motions. Reid could have voted yes, the cloture motion could have failed, and he could have filed another cloture motion. Failed cloture does not kill the underlying item, it leaves it open for continued debate.
Look at the Senate Rules, Reid had to vote this way if he wanted to bring the motion back up.
Not unbelievable considering the damage he’s done to the country. Yet this guy managed to get the NRA’s approval in NV isn;t something to sneeze at.
