What is it with General David Petraeus, head of U.S. forces in Afghanistan? Has he not heard of the Constitution? Let me explain what I mean. Now we are at the nine-year anniversary of the horrible 9/11 terrorism that killed over 3,000 Americans. Various people are marking the event's anniversary in various ways. One of the kookier ways is that a small church in Gainesville, Florida is hosting -- or is planning to host -- a burning of the Islamic Holy Book, the Koran. The burning, a nutty idea, is to protest the church's views of Islam as intolerant.This is a tiny little church and it will be a small event. But however small an event it is, it's peaceful, does not involve violence, and should be fully protected by the Constitution. Of course, as one might expect, some Muslims are infuriated by this plan and I don't blame them. It's infuriating. But it's still protected by the Constitution as an exercise of religious freedom.

Please keep in mind that General David Petraeus is under the command of the White House.
I have no doubt that his statement was made under a certain degree of duress.
As such, I took it for what it really is. Nothing more.
Petraeus has forgotten his oath.
He has sworn loyalty to Obama.

The General’s comment was that this publicity stunt put US troops at risk.

Nowhere did the General suggest that these nutzo Phelps supporting lunatics didn't have the RIGHT to do it!

He's following the orders of a usurper. Petraus has failed to uphold his sworn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

“This was a cold and bracing meeting,” an attendee said of the encounter, where Obama demanded to know “here and now” if the Pentagon would be onboard with any presidential strategy.
It apparently worked: Petraeus later described himself as “chagrined,” and both he and Gates “swore loyalty” to the President. Obama eventually supported a troop buildup.

He swears loyalty to the CONSTITUTION, to protect & defend it from ALL enemies, foreign & DOMESTIC, not some man.
Theirs is far from a stupid act. It is a very smart act... and a legal one on their part.... to rub our noses in shit.
Doesn't fly. I've read the officer oath and it says nothing about swearing fealty to a President, but it says a LOT about DEFENDING the Constitution.
In my view Petraeus has thrown his oath out the window showing the country he only cares about his 'career', not the country. With this action trampling on the 1st amendment rights of American citizens he is committing borderline treason.
I now view him exactly as I view Benedict Arnold. (Along with all the rest of the military brass who are refusing to defend the constitution). Traitors the whole lot of them.

You've forgotten that it was Petraeus who gave the order to burn confiscated bibles from US Troops in Afganistan. Basically according to military brass its okay to burn BIBLES, just not korans.
This isn't about US Troops potentially going into harms way. This is about offending Muslems - PERIOD.
