In an emotional speech this afternoon, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg defended the proposed mosque and community center two blocks away from Ground Zero.
A panel today voted to remove a final hurdle for the proposed mosque, which several prominent national Republicans, including Sarah Palin and Former Speaker Newt Gingrich, oppose because they say it's too close to the site of the September 11 attacks. A poll from last month indicates most New Yorkers also oppose the project.
"Whatever you may think of the proposed mosque and community center, lost in the heat of the debate has been a basic question: Should government attempt to deny private citizens the right to build a house of worship on private property based on their particular religion? That may happen in other countries, but we should never allow it to happen here," he said. (You can watch the video here.)
When speaking about the September 11 attacks, Bloomberg "choked up," according to a transcript from The Daily News:

Bloomberg is a glowing example of what is WRONG with the republican party. The party should kick this liberal moron out, along with many others. He!!, New Yorkers should kick him out of office as well.
What a disgrace. To even think that letting an enemy of our once-free country build essentially a monument to their murder of 3000 innocent citizens is acceptable is beyond contempt.
I’ll tell you what - if they actually build this thing, I hope somebody flies a plane right into the front door of the building while the Islamofascists are holding their first service. Time to start evening the score, not to bend over.
Great point. I think a lot of people are just confused because this is being touted by a lot of the press as a “freedom of religion” issue when its not. No one is saying that Muslims don’t have the right to build a mosque to worship in within NYC. What some are saying is that given the feelings and sensitivities of the survivors and the loved ones of the fallen Ground Zero is not the place to be constructing a monument to Islam considering what some of their supposed most fervent believers did on that site. This is nothing more than adding insult to injury and political correctness is sealing the deal.

But it was his third prayer that really caught my attention...
He prayed for the return of Spain to Muslim rule.

There are communities all over America that deny religious entities the right to build their house of worship.
The Mayor is being disingenuous and I suspect his emotion is all for himself at being on the wrong side of this issue.
He connived to get that third term and now he is paying big time. The crime rate is sky rocketing, including murders, and he has murderous muslims demanding the right to honor those who tried to destroy all that we hold precious.
The Mayor is a disgrace, not only to his office, but a disgrace to the honorable men and women who are fighting for our freedoms against these animals who wish to destroy us.
He was willing to have the terror trials in NYC too, before the sentiment was overwhelming. I guess this is how he pays back those who forced him to back down on the trials.
