First Lady Michelle Obama told the NAACP to move past the slavery narrative because something else is harming minority children more than Jim Crow. That threat is obesity.
Obama is right. Were decades beyond slavery and Jim Crow. This is not to say that those issues are not important because they are. Knowing ones history helps one to better focus on the future, but holding on to the past and expecting reparations in some way, shape or form is hoping for that pie in the sky.
Minorities may not be able to control how certain people may judge us but we can take control of our health.
Obama said black children are significantly more likely to be obese than white children and are nearly half of all black kids will develop diabetes at some point.
I witnessed this first hand while shopping in an ALDI food store Monday after work. I stopped in the store to buy grapes, oranges, apples and carrots for my snack. I ended up in line behind a black couple with three children.
The oldest boy was about 6 and the youngest boy was about two years. The woman had a grocery cart full of food but everything was processed. She had sugary cereals, processed meats, cans of ravioli, fish sticks, frozen dinners, packaged cookies and chips.
Her bill came to just over $100. My bill was just over $10 for a hand full of groceries. Packaged, processed meals are less expensive and in these days people are trying to make their dollars go farther. But people need to have the knowledge to make healthier choices.
If we dont do anything to reverse this trend Obama said our kids wont be in any shape to continue the work begun by the founders of this great organization.
Obama made her statement at NAACPs annual convention on Monday.
So my question to you is this. Does the health of kids trump discussions about race today? More food for thought: Did anyone hear some of the statements from New Berlin residents last night over the issue of low income housing? We still have a long ways to go on both fronts in this country.
My give-a-damn is busted. Move along bro'.
Michelle Antionette says, “Don’t let them eat that cake!”
What ever the demon,, its the white mans fault..........Maybe some should consider moving back to wince they came to be free of whitey??
It’s true. Who’s going to hire fatty? It shows a complete lack of personal dignity. I’d imagine pride in one’s work can’t rank very high on one’s list of priorities when his belly currently owns his body.
It’s not just blacks, but really, how rare is it to see a black girl who isn’t at the very least overweight?
You’re paying for it in one way or another.
“Minorities may not be able to control how certain people may judge us....”
Under Manchelle’s tutoring (”you’ll never get rich...go into service”...while SHE becomes first “lady”), the NAACP’s racism, and Eric (The RED) Holder’s refusal to indict BLACK perps on white victims, it’s on HER and the “Won’s” heads that “some people” may now KNOW how to judge “them”.
Hey, Manchelle....this is YOUR garden....now, reap what you’ve sown.
What I don’t understand is how someone with ankles and calves the size of hers could get the sheer nerve to preach to us about being fat. She’s a disgrace to be telling anyone to lose weight. These liberals are absolutely insane about the damnest things that they themselves are guilty of.
Are we really at the point when the most pressing issue re: Americans is government interference with their diets?
Utopia, we are there.
Yeah! Shame on us for forcing our tax dollars (via foodstamps) on them!
Don't do as I do,, but do as I say.....some democrat,, long time ago...
As usual,, simple solution, go back to commodities,, no more EBT cards,, you can have dried beans, milk, cheese, flour,,,,No more. Work for anything other than that.
Idiot say what?
Packaged processed meals are way more expensive.
Don't give me that crap that it is somehow expensive to eat healthy.
Rice, beans, meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables are all inexpensive. In fact many stores sell staple items at cost or at discount to attract customers and make up for it by marking up soda, chips, frozen meals, etc.
The #1 nutrition related problem of the “poor” in America is obesity. You are more likely to be obese if you are poor than if you are better off. And it is because, like in the rest of life, people who are poor and continue to be poor in the USA, tend to make bad choices.
no MO......slavery is when you tax people to death so others can sit on their lazy behinds and do nothing to help themselves. spread the wealth is a codename for that kind of slavery.
Was on another thread and the say let them eat bugs, yummy.
a shovel and some seeds are pretty dang cheap......go till some soil and plant your own food.
But come on? Processed foods less expensive? On what planet?
The milk, of course, is because you breeding like randy rabbits.....
Volume pricing. Mama doesn’t buy squash anymore.
