Crisis managers tell The Daily Beast’s Lloyd Grove that the former vice president is not doing enough to combat the salacious allegations that he behaved inappropriately with several masseuses.

It has been, for Al Gore, a swift and brutal fall from grace. Before all the unpleasantness, the former vice president was mainly known as the planet’s premiere environmentalist and anti-global-warming crusader. He has been a bestselling author, Oscar-winning filmmaker, successful businessman and, lest we forget, the man millions still believe should have been sworn in as president in January 2001.

But now the 62-year-old Gore is tabloid fodder—notorious as a “crazed sex poodle.” That’s the nickname he allegedly received during a scolding from an aggrieved masseuse in Portland, Oregon, who claims Gore ignored her pleas to stop his inappropriate touching during a long-ago massage session. Today, ironically, the ex-veep is the target of seamy sexual allegations that rival those once leveled at his former boss, Bill Clinton, whose impeachable peccadilloes Gore privately blamed for damaging his own presidential campaign.

“Whenever you’re accused of anything these days, and it’s not true, you have to fire back with both barrels,” says Allan Mayer.

Now, four weeks into his multimedia ordeal, Gore hasn’t managed to formulate an effective PR strategy to counter the toxic fallout polluting his once-gleaming image. And crisis managers say his passive stance is only fueling the problem. What’s more, he has yet to personally confront the allegations in a public forum, and refuses to take questions from the howling media mob during increasingly furtive speaking appearances. Inevitably, the ugly charges and Gore’s apparent evasiveness are harming his reputation.

"...the woman tells how Gore greeted her at the door of his room at the Hotel Lucia for the 11 p.m. appointment with a hug that "went on a bit long," then quipped "call me Al." Hotel staff had told the licensed therapist when booking her that the client was Al Gore, but that he was going under the name "Mr Stone."

Gore allegedly asked her to focus on his abdominal area and adductors -- the inner thigh muscles -- as well as his back and other areas.

While his lower body was covered with a sheet, she said, Gore "became vocal" with "muffled moans" and asked her to go lower, getting angry when she refused.

"It appeared he was demanding sexual favors or sexual behaviors," the woman said.

She then asked Gore to show her where he wanted to be massaged and he "grabbed my hand, shoved it down under the sheet to his ***** **** area, my fingers brushing against his ***** and firmly planted my hand on his pubic crest region and said to me 'There!' in a very sharp, loud, angry-sounding tone."

The woman told police she was caught in "a perfect storm" in a room with someone who was "Teflon-coated in terms of his credibility and celebrity status"..."

Police specifically responded to claims by the woman -- who said she remained clothed through the alleged encounter -- that she had noticed her black slacks had "stains" on them.

Police said they did not collect her attire because they believed it would not provide evidence.

“At this point, the Police Bureau does not consider this an ongoing investigation unless new evidence is received in this case,” Wednesday's police statement said.

How is Al Gore’s silence ‘ruining’ his reputation when the MSM has largely ignored the story and most American’s don’t know about it? Sure, internet news junkies might know the details but regular people have no idea about it because NBC, CBS, ABC, etc have no really mentioned it.

However, if it was about Sarah Palin’s husband it would be 24/7 coverage.

MSM has too much invested ideologically with Al Gore to honestly report or even investigate the story ala Sen. John Edwards. It is again left to the National Enquirer to do the heavy lifting.

The real killer is in the last part of the article:

So...his supporters are counting on planetary catastrophe in order to make this story die.
