The dictionary defines a troubadour as one who composes or sings verses or ballads.
History has been littered with them. Some better than others. But to dismiss James Taylor or Carole King as merely troubadours would be like saying a Ferrari is merely a car a Lear Jet is merely an airplane.
Few recording artists have sold more records. Even fewer songwriters have had a greater impact on the lives of the boomer generation. (Click to see details about the amazing reunion concert and how it turned into the hottest tour of the year).

James Taylor is a fantastic entertainer, but I will never pay money to see Carole King. I had some business dealings with her about 18 years ago and she is a shrew of the first order.
Interesting about King. I was never a fan of hers to begin with.
As to Taylor, I would not allow his music to be played around someone with suicidal tendencies.
Didn’t like them then and haven’t changed a bit.
She wrote a couple of the best love songs of the past 50 years IMHO.
Then, I always thought Phil Spector was a helluva guy so what do I know...
Carole King is a big outspoken Obama supporter. Thus, I won’t pay a single penny to see her sing.
Too bad, she and Gerry Goffin were a great songwriting team.
Can’t deny her talent, “Tapestry” is a one of the best singer/songwriter albums of the ‘70’s.
But after having to deal with her, she’s got some serious issues, but a lot of musicians do I suppose. She was just extra crazy and mean as a snake.
I’ve always disliked Spector after he ruined “Let It Be”.
Phil Spector salvaged Let it Be in my opinion. The worst Beatle album ever.
Same here. Never cared for either one’s music. I don’t like their personal opinions of people like me either. : )
Agree about the album! My best friend gave it to me on my 13th birthday. It was the first LP I ever owned and still play it often! But then again I still have an 8-track player and listen to Aerosmith on it!
Ever hear of Anna Netrebko? Look I liked Carole King, but to compare her (or James Taylor) to a Ferrari is an ignorant joke.

The Taylor/King show at Madison Square Garden got panned locally as a soporific event that should never have been booked at at Arena sized venue.
Why not name it what it is, "the Medicare Tour"...........
Sorry, but I just can't get into the seniors trying to live up to their heydeys simply for the cash payouts...........
Where are Hermin's Hermits when you need them..........
They wrote some amazing songs, and had some incredible hits that they personally sang.
I sing “Whenever I See Your Smiling Face” to my little ones when they wake up in the morning.
Still, it bugs me that he was apparently nodding off on heroin on Sesame Street, and she is such a leftie. Argh. But when they shut up and sing, it’s all good.
I read an interesting book about ladies of their era - Carole, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon.
Yeah. Funny thing about that song. Saratoga was after the total eclipse, so I always knew it was BS.

If Carole and James make a DVD of their concerts, they can sell them as a cure for insomnia!!!
James Taylor makes me want to reach for the barf bag. Carole King? There was this one summer when all they played on the radio were songs from that album, Tapestry. Probably 1972 or thereabouts. I got my fill then - don’t need any more.
