With pictures of oil-drenched birds, blackened beaches, and marshlands invaded with oil streaming across our televisions every day, it is easy to become angry and demand retribution from the cause of the disaster. Unfortunately, it is also easy for unscrupulous politicians to take that anger and turn it to their political advantage. History is replete with incidents of real popular anger leading to monstrous outcomes of tyranny. Yesterday the USA wrote a new anecdote in that awful book.
There is no doubt that the oil spill produced by the Deepwater Horizon rig and BP is a disaster of monumental ecological proportions. There is no doubt that the spill has caused the loss of livelihood for fishermen, hotel owners, beach surfboard renters, and millions of other people on the gulf coast. There is also no doubt that it is BPs responsibility to get the well shut off and pay for the cleanup. There is also no doubt that a full investigation should be conducted into how the spill happened, the role of BP and of the government in it, and the mistakes made in the cleanup. We should find out what caused the blowout, how it could have been prevented, why the cleanup was so slow in getting started, why foreign experts were not allowed to help, why the EPA is blocking applications of products as simple as hay which could soak up oil, and why Governor Jindal and others were disallowed the means to protect their shorelines by government bureaucracies.
However, none of this gives the president the power to suspend the Constitution, revoke the rule of law, or demand payments from a company.

The Constitution and rule of law is of no concern to marxist dictators!
Couldn't agree more.
...and a hopelessly useless Obama playing golf...
Do the ends justify the means?
What is the point of having laws, and courts, if the President can decide who should be punished and by how much?
There were laws covering this situation, and those harmed have access to the courts. BP would pay.
Clearly the left considers laws effective only if they are broken by them.
So far Barton an Michelle Bachman have been the only two pople to say it like it is, and Barton was forced to apologise for it.
Obama isnt a King , he has agencies and a Congress to tell BP how to handle this. He hasnt the power to extort fund from BP. Well at least he isnt supposed to have it. It appears that this Congress is happy to let him do anything he damned well please’s and the Media are there to help him do it.
this is the point that has bothered many freepers but there seem to be an equal number who think “anything” that forces BP to pay damages is justifiable :-(
excellent!
When Obama not been above the law?.
BBTTT.
Another impeachable offense to be added to an ever-growing list.
Oil Spill!!! Millions of Americans consider saying what you think sufficient reason.
Im sure Obama will give the Million Dollars that BP donated to his campaign back so the LITTLE people that he has now put out of work can pay their bills
That's 20,000 $1,000,000 bills for Obama and gang to play with. How many of the 20,000 will get “lost” or sent to community organizers, or sent to far-left people under phony Gulf Coast names? Des-PIC-able!
and ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how they lambasted Bush for ignoring the rule of law........
email I sent to Boehner yesterday:
To the Minority Leader:
Rep. Boehner - Joe Barton was absolutely right in apologizing to BP. WTF ever happened to the rule of law in this country? I have never seen anything like the runaway lawlessness as displayed by the present administration. Twist arms until people cave in to their demands - that’s now the rule. And you candy-ass Republicans stand around and watch. Now you force one of your own to apologize for pointing out this lawlessness!! Well bite my butt!! Why don’t you get a desk set up in the oval office so you can apologize and kiss ass at the first hint of criticism from a Republican. WE NEED PEOPLE IN CONGRESS WHO WILL FIGHT THESE THUGGISH BASTARDS!!! You apparently don’t want to. You want to check to see which way the wind blows - just another goddamn political hack!!!
