Four high school teens from Gwinnett County, GA are in custody for their alleged roles in throwing a bleach-filled balloon at 14-year-old seventh grader Miguel Mesa as reported by Alexis Stevens for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Juan Flores, 17, of Norcross, and three other Meadowcreek High School students, all juveniles, are accused of tossing a bleach-filled balloon from a van, striking the boy in the face as he walked home from school. Police said Flores, the front seat passenger, also used a "Super Soaker" water gun to spray a bleach mixture on the boy. A 16-year-old boy apparently was driving his mother's van, and two 15-year-old boys were in the back seat, Hedley said. * * * Mesa underwent treatment Wednesday afternoon to remove blood from his right eye, he told the AJC. Once blood has been removed from his eyes, doctors will better be able to determine whether Miguel will suffer permanent damage. It likely will be at least two weeks before doctors know the extent of the damage done to her son's eyes, his mother, Isabel Mesa, said Wednesday.

Blood in the eyes? Geeze! Is this the wonderful “real world” “socialization” that homeschoolers are missing?

When was the last time you knew of someone being bombed with bleach balloons on the job? And...What would happen if it did? What would be the response of the employers and/or police? Would this be considered “real world”? Would it be considered helpful for the employee to learn how to deal with such people?

So?...Why do we expect young teens to put up with abuse that would win an adult millions in court and put their abusers in prison for years? Why would we even begin to think that this is “good” for them?

Personally...As for the kids who threw the balloons, I believe these kids would be far, far, far, better off if they were out of school and on a job where they could be mentored by grown up men instead of sissy Marxist “educators”. ( They aren't called teachers any more.)

Finally....There are schools in this nation that are sooooo horrific that it would be far, far, far, better for the child NEVER to attend! Could the parents( as dysfunctional as they are) possibly do any worse in pulling together some sort of education for the child? Personally, I don't think so.

Unfortunately dangerous bullying is seen in schools without significant illegal immigration. Something else is going on here.

But...I agree. We should get rid of the illegals.

Please, it’s not fair to jump to conclusions. Unless you have additional details — and you well may — this article says nothing about the immigration or citizenship status of any of the perps, and mentions only one surname.

There were hispanic families here in Texas long before statehood. I know many good citizens who have lived here for generations who have common ethnic surnames like the one in the article.

These young people need to be taken off the street regardless of ethnicity or legality. Terrible crime.

Another Reason to Homeschool

There are schools that are so horrible it would be better if the child NEVER attended!

Could the parents ( as dysfunctional as they are) do any worse than the government school?

The victim was walking along the side of the road.

The perps were driving a car.

This did not happen at school.

Granted, the injured boy would likely not have been injured had he not ventured out. It generally is safer to stay at home.

Since I live in Gwinnett County and the local newspaper wrote about this ...

The kids who did this set out to use bleach to ruin/stain the clothes of their targets. In their minds they set out to perform this as a prank. The had not thought through “what happens if we hit someone in the face?”

This was not an immigrant issue, although we have many immigrant issues in GA.

Best to file this one in the ‘stupid pranks’ file.

the young man was on the side of the road. this did not happen at school it happened in the community. the young man might have been safer if hed been in school. if you read the article, all of the people involved ARE in jail.
this could have happend if he was in a home school too.

They ONLY meant to stain the clothes of people they bombed with bleach balloons and bleach-filled Super Soakers? Well, then, that makes all the difference!!!

Geez, what goes through people’s minds? This was about as stupid of a stunt as I’ve read about lately.

Bayesian probability.

Juan Carlos Flores remains in jail due to a possible immigration violation, according to jail records.

Ha... good comments... home schooled our kids; at first when my wife suggested it to me, I thought it was the dumbest thing I ever heard, boy was I wrong. The problem with “socializing” the public school way is that kids only socialize in the classroom and with kids their own age. The most well adjusted kids I know are the ones who home school and are mostly around families all day long, their own and others, and co-mingle with different age groups. Folks that always ask that dumb question, “what about socialization?” Are, A) Plain ignorant and or B) biased...

How exactly is this article related to homeschooling? This didn’t occur at school - it was a stupid and dangerous prank by some thoughtless punk kids.

It could have just as easily have happened to any kid walking down the road - even a homeschooler on his way to get an icecream while socializing his or her friends.

I’m fully aware that this didn’t happen in Texas. I just pointed out that trying to see every news story through the immigration issue is nonsense. There are plenty of good Americans who have been here for generations who have hispanic surnames. It’s this kind of knee-jerk reaction that gets us branded racist.

It’s apparently a majority hispanic school.

The issue here is violence and crime, not immigration. This kind of behavior is reprehensible in any setting.
