Anyone else use a pressure cooker? (vanity)

I'm a single guy that does almost all my own cooking. Mostly beans, soups, and chicken.

These pressure cookers, (at sea level) speed up the cooking times dramatically!. Also, for reheating leftovers, its great!

Last night, I found a store bought rotisserie chicken that was half eaten and 6 days old in the frig, most would throw it out. Not me! Pop it in the pressure cooker, add a little water, can of Mushroom soup, bring up to pressure (15psi) for 5 mins, damn it was good!

No need. I knew what you meant. I love my pressure cooker, but my wife isn’t so sure. She does like what comes out of it, though.....

Well.... can't believe no moms on here commented on this. As a home economist (retired) I must say that was living dangerously.

maybe it was the whiskey consumed with the chicken ;-)

Just Don’t run one dry on an electric stove, you can exceed the melting point of Al. Even the nanny state can’t protect you from all pilot error. I have pressure cooked for many tears with no problem.
For this reason I would recommend a stainless steel cooker.

I don’t know anyone who uses it.

Now you do! Lard is the BEST for frying chicken.

Baby sat someone and they had split pea soup in the pressure cooker.

The pressure release blew off the top. Ever since, I have had a sort of awe of the pressure cooker others don’t understand.

I never though split peas would be able to make a hole in the ceiling.

My sister gave me a digital pressure cooker for Christmas and it is awsome!

A digital pressure cooker? I'm going to have to investigate that one.

I've been using the same old fashioned cooker for *ahem* 25 years. Seems I'm a little out of date! LOL

Always buy one that will fit 2 possums or armadillos, depending on your location.

Is it OK to substitute groundhog? ;^)

Way back when, we had a pie eating contest to see whose pie crust was better: my aunt’s or my mother in law’s: lard vs.Crisco. Auntie’s lard won! Of course, I was biased with my vote cuz I never did like my EX mother in law.

Wouldn’t the pressure kill all possible bacteria? If not, what is the deal with pressure canning versus regular canning?

Inquiring minds want to know . . .

"if not properly aspirated or cooled before opening the oil can shoot out and cause fires".

So many have found out the hard way.

We had one that my dad bought in ‘46 or ‘47. Wife and I moved it from Iowa to Missouri to Iowa, up to Minnesota and then to Missouri.
When I was young, we took it with us to Japan (Army brat days) and back.

I don’t think we ever actually used it. I was really big...
