After a long series of taxes and arrogant acts that could not fail to anger the citizens of Boston, Massachusetts and nearby colonists affected by them, the American colonists finally picked up their guns and fired on the British coming to seize their store of munitions in Concord and Lexington.
The American Revolution did not occur in a week, a month or a year. It came after a Navigation Act, a Stamp Act, and others called the Intolerable Acts that actually closed Boston Harbor in retaliation for the famous Boston Tea Party.
By then the British had dispatched troops to Massachusetts to put some muscle behind their demands that the colonies help pay for the deep debt the King and Parliament had incurred from Englands many wars on the continent.
America was their nation in spirit long before it was organized as one. Americans were not going to be pushed around. They had tried everything they could to make their case, but finally there was nothing left but to unite and throw off the tyranny.
In 1770, the Boston massacre had inflamed public sentiment, but it would not be until 1774 that the citizens of Lexington and Concord would take up arms. In 1776, the second Continental Congress would convene in Philadelphia and sign a Declaration of Independence.
Jefferson wrote, But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
It has taken a brief year and a half for President Obama and his Democrat-controlled Congress to enflame the anger of a broad spectrum of Americans, Democrats, Republicans, and independents, who have been rallying in Washington, D.C., and in towns and cities across the nation against a healthcare reform they overwhelmingly opposed, but which became law.
Since then, twenty States have joined together to nullify it, challenging it in the courts while some passed laws to protect their citizens against it. This is very much in the spirit of the Tenth Amendment that posits powers in the States and in the People that are not specific to the federal government. America is a republic composed of separate and distinct republics.
The initial seizure of General Motors raised questions of its constitutionality that have never been answered. Rather than standard bankruptcy proceedings, stockholders and creditors were shoved aside to grant control to the very unions that had brought the iconic auto company to its knees.
This has since been followed by open threats to Wall Street that include proposals that would allow the government to seize firms, toss out their board of directors and officers, and, in effect, nationalize them. This is not unlike the dictatorship of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.
It is the antithesis of a nation of laws, a republic; a democracy where power is situated in the people and the constitution limits the powers of the executive and the legislative branches that are, in turn, subject to the judicial process.
If, between now and the midterm elections, the President and Congress pass the Cap-and-Trade Act and an amnesty for illegal aliens, I suspect that some Americans may not be content to sit by while States and the courts work their way within the Constitution. They will senseand rightfully soa despotism never before associated with the presidency.
There is a whiff of revolution in the air and that is why the White House and Far Left are leveling the bogus charge that the Tea Partiers are all violent neo-Nazi types. It is not beyond this White House to deliberately provoke violence. There have already been isolated incidents of Tea Partiers being attacked by union goons.
Since the White House operates on the basis of one questionable crisis to another to impose unwanted laws, nothing can be ruled out by these community organizers.
One thing is clear. We have a very unpopular president.
We have had others in the past. Lyndon B. Johnson chose not to run again after his first and only full term. Jimmy Carter was a one-term president. Richard Nixon was forced to resign. Even George W. Bush, after two terms, had worn out his welcome.
It has not been uncommon to characterize unpopular presidents as despots, but Obama is different.
He exudes arrogance.
He offends our nations allies and is seen as weak by our enemies.
Hes declared war on our vital energy sector and now on Wall Street.
He imposed a healthcare reform that will drive up costs and cause millions to lose the insurance coverage their employers provide.
Add to this the growing legion of unemployed.
Theres a lot of anger in America today.
This was an Intolerable Act of tyranny that will not stand.
Count me in!
Interesting that Obama signed his Intolerable Act into law the very same day Patrick Henry said this in 1775:
“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable—and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come.
It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace— but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
Does any one know if zer0 has started to form his own national police, talked about in the run up to the election?
Notice that little more than rhetoric happened until “the British [came] to seize their store of munitions in Concord and Lexington.”
Most of what’s been talked about is delusional rhetoric by those looking for any excuse to accuse the O of forming a private army. There is no sign of this actually happening - yet.
I think his Red Guards are officially still in the planning stages, but unofficially the Left already has a considerable army on the ground in the form of gang bangers, Union Thugs, Crazy Anarchists, Black Panthers, and so forth. I would imagine the head count is more than a million.
Ever heard of his redshirted ACORN thugs, SEIU, or the Obamajugend?
Also remember that Massachusetts, aside from Boston, had been liberated in 1774 during the so-called “blood less” revolution. Thus British authorities in 1775 could only move outside Boston in the middle of well armed troops. This may happening again as the article makes clear.
Once again, a British Ruler is overtaxing and pushing the buttons of the American People. History really is doomed to repeat itself.
We need to retake the Congress in November, impeach Obama, and try him for treason.
That law also took over student loans.
I think we should use all peaceful means of redress against the Obama Regime, and winning the upcoming November election is number one on the agenda.
However, based on my understanding of the psychopathic traits of Obama and his leadership circle, I do not expect a peaceful resolution of the issues.
In fact, if the Republicans sweep a majority into power in Congress, I expect the Left to really go ape and mount violent attacks against their opposition.
After all, this is the win or lose moment for them because I doubt they will ever come so close to totalitarian power again in this country.
If the talked about sending the National Guard into Chicago happens it will be the 'camel's nose under the tent'.
Then he can use the military to impose his will.
And while the military may be reluctant to fire on US citizens, I think all it would take is one soldier to be shot and all bets would be off.

Considering ALL that has happened already, including the take over of the census, push for felon voters, the ‘crisis’ in Arizona creating a new demand for amnestying tens of millions of new democrats, and what we’ve heard just in the last few days about Puerto Rico, IMO, we would be FOOLS to count on anything close to a ‘normal’ election taking place in 2010 or 2012 and resolving the problem. Ain’t gonna happen...they’re desperate.
How would we know? If it’s going to happen, I suspect it will be done through the (already organized) unions...Andy Stern and SEIU come to mind.

I have to have hope that it’s possible to defeat them via elections, but, as I said in #15, the lengths we’ve seen them go...the sheer desperation to maintain power and control...nothing is beneath them and I just don’t see anything close to a normal election being allowed. I hope I’m wrong. Because if I’m not wrong, all I’m seeing is that we’ve got all our ‘peaceful’ eggs in one election basket and our Plan B may come too late.
All of our eggs are in one basket...the American people basket.
They are rising up...and a new...and different...revolution is brewing!
