My ignorant reaction is that the Air Traffic Controllers brought the plane in too low on purpose.
If Russia is involved, what is going to happen? Nothing. What is Poland able to do militarily? Obama could care less. NATO is toothless.

It would be interesting to know what altimeter settings the air traffic controller radioed to the pilot as the plane approached the air port and how it squared with actual conditions. It seems that info would be available from the black box and weather stations in the area. But if they were flying VFR it wouldn’t matter, but I thought it was very foggy. And was there any ILS system in place?

Just the fact that Vlad Putin is so closly connected with ALL aspects of this tragedy set the suspicion in my mind.
Oh, sure. We’re expected to believe that the Russians went to all the effort to crash the plane, cart away all the bodies, remove all personal items from the site, and kill the guy who video taped it but forgot there was a black box that would tell the whole story?
Did anyone think anything else was the case?
The Russian’s are capable of this and much more. But this tragedy was a failure of Polish security. They allowed their entire leadership to fly on the same plane. That’s not smart.
This does not appear to be a repeat of the accident in which Ron Brown died where the aircraft shot a NDB approach into rising terrain. (that affair is a whole 'nother can of worms) It appears that this pilot just busted minimums and got the same results most other pilots have achieved when they did so.
I await further credible news on this tragic, and probably totally avoidable, accident.

Well, nothing will come of this, I suppose, but it’s as well to know what really happened.
Putin is a scum. And stupid, because the last thing Russia needs is to get involved in empire building, when they can’t even produce enough children to ensure the continued existence of Russia itself.
Certainly Obama will do nothing. In fact, he will be secretly pleased if he is briefed on this. But he’s probably too busy playing golf to bother with regular briefings.
I have been very suspicious, right from the start, that the black box recordings have not simply been released. Given the importance of this case, they should have been. The changing stories about how many times the plane attempted to land are also suspect.
Who would have thought?????

If somebody comes to any other country, learn at least how to pronounce the most important words, not to mention the basic facts about the country.
