Results are in from the Southern Republican Leadership Conference 2012 Presidential Straw Poll. Here are the top four:
439 Mitt Romney
438 Ron Paul
330 Sarah Palin
321 Newt Gingrich
Fox News' Carl Cameron just reported that Romney supporters were "handing out gifts" to attendees, and that Ron Paul sold cut-rate tickets to the event on his website. So, considering that, I would say Palin and Gingrich made pretty good showings.

I know Romney wasn’t there. Did Ron Paul speak?

Beck pushes Romney because members of the Mormon cult stick together.

I would not worry. Republicans, conservatives, don’t want Romney. The media may try to sell him, or the Pubbie establishment may try to advance him, but ground up activists, many never before engaged, are in this fight. No third party. Use the Republican structure that is in place. We win, they lose.

Beck also said that Romney is a socialist because of his Massachusetts health care program.
But it’s hard to tell with Beck - does he have a weakness for Romney because of the Mormon connection?

Some of Paul’s 800 didn’t show up on time (1pm registration deadline). Rumors of 40. That’s not good either, but it’s not the same as Paul’s tix going elsewhere.

Has ROMNEY been a man to take Ownership for the attacks on Gov. Palin on
the eve of Election 2008 throwing Obama into the White House?
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."
The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"Im told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palins people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romneys former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off
.hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."
"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the Diva leak was Nicolle Wallaces husband."
Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

Enough with the hysteria. More than half of the attendees didn’t even bother to vote. The only “meaning” in the straw poll results is that straw polls mean nothing.

Romney and Paul shouldn't even be in considered given their track record and Palin supports flaming socialist McAmnesty. What does that tell you about her stance on amnesty for illegal aliens?

Palin expands her position on Illegal Immigration
Palin: we need to close the borders. They are called illegal aliens for a reason and if they are not going to follow the rules they should not be in our country.
Its pretty simple I ratched that one down to the simple answer because its an easier answer than some politicians want it to make it be. you close the borders.
You get more agressive about cracking down on the illegal aliens and we take it serious what our border patrol officers are trying to do
December 2009
Lars Larson radio talk show
LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?
SARAH PALIN: No, Im not for amnesty. Lets ratchet this down quite simply to remember what were referring to. Illegal aliens are called illegal for a reason.
We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty. And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if theyre not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.

“Do the math. Romney got 39 votes that werent bought. Paul bought votes for people who voted for others, so he really got NO votes. Palin won with 330 non-purchased votes and Gingrich has established himself as the establishment candidate who is next in line.”
I think your analysis makes sense. I am perfectly comfortable with Palin matching up against Gingrich, an old Washington RINO who will be 70 years old (and looks it) in 2013. She has to beat someone for the nomination. He is a known quantity with a boxcar full of baggage. (Global warming, Scozzafava, marital issues in the past). But Newt is someone who has at least facial credibility. Palin’s defeat of him will generate a lot of attention and press and will help her to build momentum for the big takedown in November 2012.

Palin finally speakson immigration
From the article:
Heres another dash of cold water for those right-wingers, like me, who worked so hard to convince themselves that Sarah Palin just must have Buchananite views on the issues because of her down-home charm and moose-hunting prowess.
In an interview with Univision, she told us what she really thinks about immigration:
Univision:As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?
Palin:
There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrantthere are about 12 million of the illegal immigrantsnot only economically is that just an impossibility but thats not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.
UnivsisionDo you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?
PalinNo, I do not. I do not.
Not total amnesty. [Emphasis added.] You know, people have got to follow the rules. Theyve got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
UnivisionTo clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
PalinI do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

“Beck says he is the only person who can beat Obama.”
Whether or not that is true I have no idea.
However, if it is true then it’s still the same ol’ repub elitists who have learned nothing from the Tea Party.
Romney is cut from the same mold as McCain.
