New Contract With America!

"...The 2010 Conservative American Contract With America

  1. Lowering Taxes - We're taxed enough already! Not just saying no to new taxes or tax increases, but saying YES to lowering tax rates across the board for all Americans who pay taxes, and to lowering business taxes to promote economic growth.

  2. Energizing America the Right Way! -

Trade wind for nuclear power! Let the private sector figure out if wind and solar energy can be profitable. Get the government out of the way so more nuclear power plants and clean-coal power plants can be built all around the nation right now!
Trade solar for clean coal! Offer incentives to construct these new power plants so they can supply the energy needed for a strong economy.
Drill Baby, Drill! Drill here. Drill now. Right now. And Drill any government agency or special interest group that tries to get in the way. Offshore drilling approved now so we can harvest oil off our shores instead of watching as the Mexican and Chinese governments do it!..."

Sorry, but lowering taxes alone isn’t enough. DRASTIC spending cuts are going to be required as well, to include reducing SSI/Medicare payments over a period of several decades.

Allow the hundreds of “free” social programs to whither on the vine. They’ll never get their own jobs without the motivation.

Yup. The spending is the problem. Hey, I’d love to see a tax cut, but I would forego that in favor of drastic spending cuts. If I can get both, that might be nice, but spending is the #1 problem.

Along with "free" rent, "free" food, "free" education, "free" legal fees, "free" cell phones/Internet access.......etc.
I understand helping those in NEED, but those in WANT should earn their own luxuries.

If we continue to import poverty, i.e., bringing in 1.2 million LEGAL immigrants, most of whom are poor and uneducated, it won't matter what we do.

Social Welfare Programs – The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 33 percent, compared to 19 percent for native households. The poverty rate for immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) is 17 percent, nearly 50 percent higher than the rate for natives and their children. Massive low-skill immigration works to counteract government anti-poverty efforts. While government works to reduce the number of poor persons, low-skill immigration pushes the poverty numbers up. In addition, low-skill immigration siphons off government anti-poverty funding and makes government efforts to shrink poverty less effective. Milton Friedman said, “You cannot simultaneously have free immigration and a welfare state.”

Health Care – 34 percent of immigrants lack health insurance, compared to 13 percent of natives. Immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for 71 percent of the increase in the uninsured since 1989. Our Emergency Rooms have been turned into free health care clinics for immigrants, legal and illegal, affecting the quality and timeliness of services and increasing medical costs subsidized by the insured and the taxpayers.

Energy Independence – Our pro-population growth immigration policies will account for about three-quarters of the projected increase of 135 million in our population over the next 40 years. This is the equivalent of adding approximately the combined populations of the UK and Germany. How does population growth impact our energy needs? According to Population-Environment Balance (PEB), 93 percent of the U.S. increase in energy use since 1970 can be attributed to population growth. In 1970 the US consumed 14.7 million barrels of oil a day compared to approximately 22 million barrels today with about 70% of the total now being imported. The Democrats are preaching conservation and Green technology, but fail to mention increased demand due to immigration-fueled population growth. We will have to run just to stand still in terms of meeting our future energy needs. If we were to reduce our annual immigration to 300,000 from the current 1.2 million, by 2060 the population would be 80 million less than the projected 468 million. How much energy would that save?

Sorry but meh.

I know this won’t sell here at FR but I think lowering taxes should only be priority number 5 or so. We need to get a handle on spending first and foremost, unless of course Healthcare passes so that would be numero uno as being repealed. Once spending is cut, healthcare repealed, military needs taken care of, border is reinforced then cut taxes.

The lack of drastic cuts in government spending shows this is the same old GOP.

The old guard can take its shiny, new Contract and go back to the Political Ruling Class Club with the following message:

No Thanks.

I agree. Taxes can be cut later once we make sure spending is under control and the actual debt starts to reverse.

FWIW That site has nothing to do with the GOP other than being for them. Of course I don’t doubt their mantra will be similar though.

I don’t have faith in our officials to do both at the same time so I would rather them work on the debt first and foremost. However if they were to cut taxes I would want them to tackle the business taxes first, even if that pisses people off. We are at a point now that our corporate taxes are hitting the same levels of socialist countries. That should never be.

This contract with America is a farce. We’ve had a contract with America since 1789. It’s called the Constitution. We need to focus on demanding politicians abide by the Constitution instead of insisting they obey another document.

The lack of drastic cuts in government spending shows this is the same old GOP.

When welfare first started, it was called "relief." Those on relief had to work for their government checks. They had to keep the highways clean and in working order. They had to mow the lawns of government buildings, wash windows, etc. They had to earn their wages like everyone else.
They decided it was too embarrassing, and got some touchie-feelie politicians to let them stay home. Today, the parasites are still feeding, and they're still breeding.
All those on welfare today should be required to work. They can care for the properties of the elderly, shovel taxpayers driveways, pick up highways, etc.

Welfare started all this. Ending the welfare "free ride" can stop it.

I agree. Add a 25% across the board spending cut. Or better yet, a Balance Budget Amendment.

Yep. No man should be held as another mans slave. Everything the government has done to us has turned us into nothing but tax slaves.

Repeal the Endangered Species Act

Eliminate the EPA

Enact Term Limits (8 years in the House, 12 years in the Senate)

Eliminate the NEA

Limit the staff of the FCC to 30 people and only allow them to issue guidelines.

Mandate that all government workers be non-union, especially teachers.

Convert all government employee retirement plans to Social Security and Medicare.

Cap income tax at 20% and reduce the federal payroll as needed to stay on budget, but increase the military by 25%.

I’m just getting started...

I think we need an Amendment that sets a limit on the percentage of income that the government can take and the Amendment should require a balance budget. Our representatives (not leaders) need to make the hard decisions about what is good for the country and what isn't.

The problem with making welfare recipients work is that the Unions scream bloody murder.
