I do not know if what I’m about to write makes me a monster. I do know that it makes me a part of a miniscule minority, if Internet trends and news stories of the past weeks are any guide.

I haven’t donated a cent to the Haitian relief effort. And I probably will not.
I haven’t donated to the Haitian relief effort for the same reason that I don’t give money to homeless men on the street. Based on past experiences, I don’t think the guy with the sign that reads “Need You’re Help” is going to do anything constructive with the dollar I might give him. If I use history as my guide, I don’t think the people of Haiti will do much with my money either.
In this belief I am, evidently, alone. It seems that everyone has jumped on the “Save Haiti” bandwagon. To question the impulse to donate, then, will probably be viewed as analogous with rooting for Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, or the Spice Girls.
My wariness has much to do with the fact that the sympathy deployed to Haiti has been done so unconditionally. Very few have said, written, or even intimated the slightest admonishment of Haiti, the country, for putting itself into a position where so many would be killed by an earthquake.
I can’t help but wonder why questions have not been raised in the face of this outpouring of support. Questions like this one:
Shouldn’t much of the responsibility for the disaster lie with the victims of that disaster?

This is from one of my oldest and dearest Army buddies. BG (U.S. Army—Ret.) forwarded this from a friend that just returned from Haiti.
To All,
I just returned from Haiti with Hebler. We flew in at 3 AM Sunday to the scene of such incredible destruction on one side, and enormous ineptitude and criminal neglect on the other.
Port o Prince is in ruins. The rest of the country is fairly intact. Our team was a rescue team and we carried special equipment that locates people buried under the rubble. There are easily 200,000 dead; the city smells like a charnal house. The bloody UN was there for 5 years doing apparently nothing but wasting US Taxpayers money. The ones I ran into were either incompeyent or outright anti american. Most are French or french speakers, worthless every damn one of them. While 1800 rescuers were ready willing and able to leave the airport and go do our jobs, the UN and USAID ( another organization full of little OBamites and communisrts that openly speak against America) These two organizations exemplared their parochialism by:
USAID, when in control of all inbound flights, had food and water flights stacked up all the way to Miami, yet allowed Geraldo Rivera, Anderson Cooper and a host of other left wing news puppies to land.
Pulled all the security off the rescue teams so that Bill Clinton and his wife could have the grand tour, whilst we sat unable to get to people trapped in the rubble.
Stacked enough food and water for the relief over at the side of the airfield then put a guard on it while we dehydrated and wouldn’t release a drop of it to the resuers.
No shower facilities to decontaminate after digging or moving corpses all day, except for the FEMA teams who brought their own shower and decon equipment, as well as air conditioned tents.
No latrine facilities, less digging a hole, if you set up a s**tter everyone was trying to use it.
I watched a 25 year old Obamite with the USAID shrieking hysterically; berate a full bird colonel in the Air Force, because he countermanded her orders, whilst trying to unscrew the air pattern. “You dont know what your president wants! The military isn’t in charge here we are!”
If any of you are thinking of giving money to the Haitian relief, or to the UN don’t waste your money. It will only go to further the goals of the French and the Liberal left.
If we are a fair and even society, why is it that only white couples are adopting Haitian orphans? Where the hell is that vocal minority that is always screaming about the injustice of American society?
Bad place, bad situation, but a perfect look at the new world order in action. New Orleans magnified a thousand times. Haiti doesn’t need democracy, what Haiti needs is Papa Doc. Thats not just my opinion, that is what virtually every Haitian we talked with said. The French run UN treat us the same as when we were a colony, at least Papa Doc ran the country.
Oh, and as a last slap in the face the last four of us had to take US AIRWAYS home from Phoenix. They slapped me with a 590 dollar baggage charge for the four of us. The girl at the counter was almost in tears because she couldn’t give us a discount or she would lose her job. Pass that on to the flying public.

I think a lot of people who are giving to Haiti may not ever give to any other charitable cause so let’s just be grateful for those who have decided to give. And we do need to build up their infrastructure so this does not happen again. I don’t want to see anyone suffer.
You should consider rephrasing that comment. You should also rewrite your title.
The Haitians turned their nose up on thosands of FEMA trailers due to formaldahyde smells, just like how new carpet smells. The food is being looted. Absolute chaos and Haiti will always be like that. Libs love Haiti and Somalia because the people are perfect Dem voters and they can bankrupt and destabilize countries. See MN and bankrupt FL.
I’ve heard bad things about the French behavior down there, and also about the UN, but didn’t realize they might be one and the same.
I donate to Catholic charities, they have a good track record.
As for any US invovlement or just money given for infrsastructure etc, here are my condtions:
1.Haiti leases us land so the US can build a military base( strategic for us in S. America and would make Chavez blow his top).
2. We build and staff the base.( Haitians get work and some infrastructure is built and entrepenurship is encouraged).
I do not believe in “bailouts” with no conditions. If a friend came to me and said they needed help with their finances, I might loan them money...but again with conditions:
1. a legal IOU
2. they give me their credit cards and we cut them up and close the accounts.
3. Until they pay me back, we sit down , take their paycheck, write out the bills , they get “spending money”..in other words, I am in charge IF you want me to help till you get on your feet.
To “donate” without conditions is called ENABLING.

I served in the SOG (Special Operations Group) in Viet Nam with
Brockhausen and Hebler, they have both been involved with various disaster relief programs for
the last several years to include Hurricane Katrina. They have both always been straight
shooters and known to call a spade a spade, as well as sometimes using very “colorful” language.
So I have no doubts as to the truthfulness of what he’s saying.

Our denomination has several churches in Haiti, so we gave to the church. We were told these funds were for long-term rebuilding.

i agree too. giving to haiti is an exercise in feel goodness with no accountability. i have my us charities i give to and will continue to because my donation is respected by being spent well. i’m sure some us charities are not getting as much because others are giving to haiti.
I've contributed a bit to a private charity that I trust and they've already reported back to their contributors on what the dollars sent have purchased.
'Bout says it all. That little bitch does not deserve the service of that colonel, the pilots flying in the relief supplies, the soldiers and Marines on duty on the streets protecting her sorry little ass. Each and every service member should simply flip those Obamanation types the finger, turn and leave 'em in that hellhole to be raped, mugged and killed by the roving gangs.
I offer my apologies, on behalf of my fellow Americans, to that colonel and every other service member keeping us safe today, for all the abuse, misuse and disrespect they're subjected to under the current Socialist regieme.

Thanks for that link. It’s a very informative read. I did not donate a dime to Haiti either because I know my tax dollars are a donation.
It’s normal to feel empathy toward your fellow man, and normal as well to have stronger feelings of kinship toward people who are genetically similar to yourself and family. People are inclined to help people who remind them of themselves. Haiti’s best chance for civilization is to be conquered by us and converted to Christianity. And I would rather not bother.
Where was the compassion of the leftist liberals back then?
Back then, the only ones not just talking about the situation but also doing something were the churches and other NGO’s.
So my suggestion to anyone who wants to donate money is, ask around, and find a local church organization that has been there on the ground for years, and knows the local people well.
Don't send your money to any US government or UN aid group, because, IMHO, your money will not be spent wisely.

I agree we should not bother because it would be a waste of time. The culture is bi-religious with voodoo and Catholicism important to their everyday lives.
I will dare to compare them to the Mexican indigenous when the Conquistadors arrived and introduced Christianity. The Padres converted many but couldn’t dispel the old ways completely.
This double standard still stands today with the culture of Mexico and many Native American cultures, as well. You can put the Lord into the culture, teach, build churches but 100% conversion doesn’t happen, as a general rule. Just my .02 cents worth.
Definitely echoes my feelings. Add to that the idiots who were fussing that they wanted better food than the MREs and energy biscuits. Excuse me! You are starving and you are going to fuss about the food we are GIVING you. Kiss my grits. If it is good enough for my son in Iraq and all the rest of the soldiers, including the ones bringing you help, then it had better be good enough for you. How about you can just starve? Enough said.
