Hayworth faced ethical scrutiny during his unsuccessful reelection campaign for his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, whose Native-American clients contributed $100,000 to his campaigns. He is still paying off legal debt that he accumulated preparing for a possible federal investigation in connection with the Abramoff scandal.

McCain Defends Pressing Agency to Act on License
- Big Campaign Donor Just Wanted a TV Station
By Michael Kranish, Globe Staff
February 22, 2008
WASHINGTON Senator John McCain yesterday defended pushing a government agency to decide whether to issue a TV license to a major donor, asserting that the agencys former chairman had cleared his role as appropriate.
But the Federal Communications Commission chairman involved in the case, William E. Kennard, actually wrote a letter to McCain at the time saying that his request for the agency to take action was highly unusual and that he was concerned that McCains action would interfere with the agencys due process.
Asked to explain the apparent contradiction, a McCain spokeswoman said yesterday that the Arizona senator was citing exoneration from a chairman who left the commission in 1997 even though that was two years before McCain pushed the FCC to decide the case. The spokeswoman denied that McCain sought to mislead the public...

Poltico headline: Hayworth challenging McCain
The ethics situation was investigated in 2006 or earlier and apparently dropped. How does that translate to J. D. has ethical problems?
You changed the headline to mean something different from Politico's headline.
He's close. Damn close.
That is what my sister said about Bill and Hillary Clinton. That was about 30 seconds before she said "I don't ever want to talk about politics again." Wise move on her part.
I was just pinged to another thread.
Remember 200Motels from last night? The troll?
On a different thread, another troll just used almost the same language to extol McCain as 200Motels did. His handle is FromTexas24.
My hunch is that it's the same troll, or one in a series of McCainiac seminar bank trolls.
I'm HTML-challenged, so I can't steer you to the thread.
But if you hit my posting history, it's right at the top.
Fun stuff!
This article poster changed the title from the one at the link.
The article poster has a little ethics problem of his own doesn’t he?
What would be great is if I could infect the trolls with my typos.
You saisd what?
I’m sorry, I’m so far behind in my pings.
I just checked your forum posts. I now what you mean. :)
Could be stupidity.
He still looks and acts creepy.
LOL Well, yeah, there is that.
I agree, some things really ARE too horrible to do.
Wasnt Jack Abramoff a DEMOCRATIC fund raiser?
+++++++++++++++
Was in with people from both parties, wasn’t he? Let’s not get started about Rangel, Dodd and RAT corruption..
I have a hunch that Sarah will endorse Rubio shortly, and then, maybe in a few days or a few weeks, will tell McCain that ‘she is really, really sorry and a little bit embarrased as well, but that she will be unable to attend the McCain March fundraiser in Phoenix’.
‘And why is that?’, McCain will ask.
‘Because I have to get my nails done’, she will reply.
And then McCain will blow his stack and let loose with that famous temper of his and curse out Sarah with a lot of choice ‘Navy slang’.
This will be Sarah’s Dear John letter.
There are seven pieces of silver in the mix somewhere. Isn’t it not a far stretch to believe his seven pieces of silver was to be a sleeper Democrat in order to save his cookies? Oh, just how magnanamous it was for the Dems to let him slide just to show us all how their prosecution was not a witch hunt? I don’t beleive there is anything too low for politicians to dream up to exercise power over anyone.
Whenever they needed that one vote, McCain was always there to deliver his hand across the aisle to appear bipartisan.
