Is There a Double Standard With Sarah Palin?
Red County ^ | January 9th, 2010 | Thomas Lamb

There comes a time when you have to ask yourself; are you going to be loyal to an issue or are you going to be loyal to the person?

And for Sarah Palin, that time has come.

She needs to decide if she is going to be loyal to the issues important to conservatives in Alaska and the nation, or is she going to be loyal to the person: John McCain.

Some background.

When John McCain won the presidential primary, my first comments on the Anchorage Daily News political blog was a word of warning: Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney would be smart to avoid running as V.P. with McCain.

The reason for the comment was based on how Juan Hernandez, an advisor to McCain, advised McCain on the issue of illegal immigration and how he was instrumental in the gaffe made by McCain when McCain went to Mexico and visited the Shrine of the Virgen de Guadalupe.

Governor Palin is “Going Rogue” on us by supporting Juan McPain in spite of conservatives. Will she wear this as a badge of courage, too?

Wow, there is a deluge of these threads happening. Oh, yeah. Time to throw Sarah under the bus. She’s blown it! That’s it! It’s all over for Sarah! Pfft. Same crap, different day.

No kidding--what's with all the turning on Palin for being a decent person and supporting the guy who put her on the national map?

I'm not convinced Palin could or should be president--and am even more convinced she's not even going to run than ever--but sometimes we have to take off the ideological blinders and simply do the decent thing. If Palin didn't support the guy, even with their clear political differences, I'd think less of her.

McCain didn’t put her on the map voters did and their faith in her.

Get you facts straight.

I do have my facts straight--the voters wouldn't have known her or had a chance to show their faith in her until McCain brought her to national attention.

Oh--and the voters' "faith" in her sent her back to Alaska.

Stop with your silly spin and get THE facts straight.

Darkwolf...Neither am I convinced she’s going to run..that in itself lends me to consider who else might be on the ticket. But Hillary will run I think...if Sarah gets it and Hillary runs against her...boy won’t there be catfights!

We in Alaska voted for her as Governor. If she was not a Governor, there would be no Sarah Palin...

Like I said, get you facts straight.

It’s going to come down to you are with us or you are not...

McCain chose her because he knew the voters who would respond to her were the only shot he had at beating Obama. If he hadn't been so second-guessing and controlling after picking her he would have stood an even better chance of winning since it was she who called Obama out on his lack of experience and the ridiculousness of his "organizing" as a basis for being president.

At one point Ann was supporting Mitt in ‘08
the Cheney’s supporting Kay Baley Hutchison over Perry
Kay being a Mitt type person, moderate Palin supporting Perry
I will ask Mark if he is still attending.

There are 49 other governors who aren't nearly as well-known as Sarah Palin, and none of them got the exposure she got.

Like I said, get you facts straight.

I might have more respect for you if you haven't now twice misspelled the simple word "your" incorrectly.

It’s going to come down to you are with us or you are not...

No. It's going to come down to those of us who live in reality having to call the rest of you who fantasize that Palin was world-famous before McCain chose her back down to planet Earth.

I'm not arguing that McCain's instincts weren't right. I'm only saying that to deny that his choosing her is what made her nationally-known is retarded.

As of this moment, with all my reservations, Palin would still be my choice of all those who might potentially run. Hillary may have outfoxed herself, though--I think the Obama administration will so taint her that there will be no way she can run as a Powell-style renegade, who used to be with 'em and now wants applause for bein' agin' em.

She could have won in 2008, but I just think the dynamic was a unique one. We've all pretty much had it with her except for the hardcore dems.

Darkwolf377: “No kidding—what’s with all the turning on Palin for being a decent person and supporting the guy who put her on the national map?”

I guess you just don’t understand the animosity that many of us have for Juan McPain, and you can bet the feeling is mutual. He epitomizes everything that is wrong with the Republican Party. So, when Sarah Palin enthusiastically supports him, it’s earth shattering. If she actually succeeds in getting him elected (she does have political capital, you know), McCain will be laughing in our faces for the next 6 years! You see, we’ve been there and done that before.

To be fair to Governor Palin, she may have foolishly promised to campaign for McPain. Perhaps we can agree to ignore her bad judgment this time? A lot of it depends on how she phrases her support. My guess is she’ll focus on the very few aspects where McPain is tolerable. However, she’s already said McJerk is the kind of leader we need in Washington, and we all know that’s BS.
