Fellow FReepers, I'm in need of a little help. I've been in an on-going debate with a family member who is an avid supporter of Obamacare. Earlier today I sent her a link to the story of the UFC fighter who equated the Canadian healthcare system to that of a third-world country. She replied with the usual lib-trash. I've gotten all that taken care of (in the debate sense of things), but I was wondering if some fellow had some numbers showing the approval ratings of the healthcare system in MA.
Thanks in advance
Don’t argue with an idiot. You’re wasting your time.
I concur. Do something more productive with your time---like watching paint dry...:-)
I may very well be wasting my time...I’ve resigned myself to that already. The weird things is, she supported Romney in the primaries and when he dropped out she switched to Obama. I thought this was unusually odd so I asked her why Obama. Ultimately, it boiled down to healthcare. She is a breast cancer survivor (but I don’t really understand how that changes matters). I only mention that because that was what she told me when I asked her about her switch. She’s one of those people that never stops researching stuff. Obviously, she’s got some bad sources. I think that if I can continue to make a compelling argument against Obamacare, she will change her mind.
Forgot to mention earlier. I like debating with her because I can usually mop the floor with her and her “facts”. Although, truth seems to have that kind of effect.
Liberalism is a hard to treat mental disorder. Usually the only treatment is a boot to the head, which has been made a felony. Don’t bother.
Send her a round-trip ticket to Cuba for a 2 year vacation (with no $$$). See how she likes it. ;-)
I would love to....but my ‘shooping skillz’ are horrible.
Breast cancer? There’s the key! If Canada has such a better system, explain these stats:
Breast cancer incidence per 100,000:
US: 101.1
Canada: 84.3
So 20% more people get breast cancer here than there. But what are the death rates per 100,000 even counting the higher incidence?
US: 19
Canada: 21.1
Seems that our health care system is much better at curing breast cancer, with 20% more getting it, but 11% fewer dying from it. She’s lucky she got breast cancer here with our great health care system, instead of in Canada.

Also, look down to death rates by race. Blacks overall have a higher death rate. We have relatively far more blacks than Canada, yet our death rate is still lower.
My sister is an avid osamaobama supporter.
No reason, no fact, no logic will ever change her mind.
She is extremely intelligent, almost to the point of being elite.
I am going to visit her on my trip to Florida, but we have agreed not to talk about politics, or I'll have to commit sistercide.
She is too smart to spout the crap about liberal policies but as we've all said many times, don't use facts with a liberal.
I still love {and pity} her.
AWESOME! That’s exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for! Thanks so much.
I’m kind of in the same boat. I can throw all the logic and facts I have at her and in the end she always ends up rationalizing everything. For instance, when I was trying to convince her the WH was full of Mao-loving radicals she would always say something like, “Do you honestly believe there would be communist radicals in the WH?” or “Those quotes were taken out of context”. Same crap, different day I suppose.
By the way, how is it that these under-developed countries have such low death rates? China has 5.5, India has 10.4, and Japan has 8.3 (although we can’t really call Japan an under-developed country). Do they just take breast cancer patients to the back of the hospital and shoot them in China?
The incident rates are very low. We know that genetics are a risk factor for breast cancer, so maybe Asians are not quite so genetically predisposed on the whole.
You're welcome. I'd like to hear the response, canned liberal or otherwise. I know it's a bit cold going after breast cancer since she's had it, but sometimes you need to make it personal before people understand.
How is that weird ? She went from one Socialist with a messiah complex to another.
