Its over folks. Not just the Massachusetts Senate election but any Democrat health care reform bill. Democrats chances of passing a health care reform bill that looks like anything like we have seen is about zero. The rest of the battle against Democrats till the November election is downhill from here. If you had been watching MSNBC the past few days you could see the democrat party and Obama White House preparing for this humiliating loss. Story after story was about Martha Coakley's coming defeat and about how she screwed up. Last night Chris Matthews did a 2 hour special on Obamas first year in history. Tonight Matthews is reporting on what went wrong during Obamas first year. Was this great timing or what? In fact tonight on MSNBC Rachael Maddow took issue with Matthews assumption that something went wrong with the Democrat party and started an argument with him about it (a classic moment.)
Obama and the democrat leadership have a terrible job. They cant give up this battle where defeat is certain. You will hear lots about the various options democrats have to pass a bill. The truth is that even without this special election Democrats would have had a hell of a time combining the two bills and passing a single one with its popularity so low. In fact it is doubtful that the House and Senate could have even passed the same two bills in January again let alone a single bill. Now this election defeat will send shock waves through democrats up for election in November. The leaderships options have gotten even worse. Republicans smell blood as does the MSM, and democrats are wounded and cornered with few options.
So what are the options Democrats have proposed ? ( I saw many on MSNBC the Obama channel tonight .) Option 1 is to convince the House Democrats to pass the Senate bill with no change requiring no new Senate vote. The problem with this is the Senate bill is unpopular with everyone, even liberals. Option 2 is to pass the Senate bill as in option 1 but promise house democrats that it will be fixed in a later Senate (50 vote) budget reconciliation bill. This would require convincing the House democrats that the bill would be fixed by the Senate later (after being burned multiple times). And many parts of the bill could not be changed using reconciliation. For example reconciliation could probably not be used to create a public health plan. Option #3 is to pass a bill fast before Senator Scott Brown is seated. I will predict that Democrats are now too spooked by this loss to try to move on the Health Reform bill before he is seated. In fact Jim Webb and Barney Frank have already come out tonight with statements opposing passing a bill before he is seated.
Obama is now going to be even more tempted than he was earlier in the year to get a bill by compromise with some republicans. He will make the argument to democrats that compromise is the only option. But now Republicans even RINOs are embolden by the election loss and polls, moderate democrats are scared to vote and the liberals are still convinced that it was compromise that created the crappy Senate bill that everyone hates, and is what led to the Massachusetts Senate loss. Once again, its the perfect position to be in if you are the minority. Enjoy!
There is much more work to be done. Many more primaries to work for. Many more conservatives to elect. Many more battles to be fought.
If conservatives rest on their laurels on this one, the Rats will fight back.
No complacency here. Savor the victory and keep the gloves off.
We have only just begun to fight.
Obama’s whole reputation rests on socialism, and corporate cronyism. He will “double down” his efforts. The thing is, will the Democrats fall on their swords for him now? Too early to tell.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, MR. RESIDENT
The only thing we know right now is that the entire Dem party is in a state of panic.
Other than Obama, that is, who doesn't give a rip what anyone thinks, what happens to the country, or who's following him off the cliff....
You have a right to be proud. Thanks for all your hard work. I was with you in spirit at the rallies and marches.
I hope Scott’s election does finally put a nail in the Obamacare coffin.
That’s am imprssive slump, IC. Good job!
Here's what I posted on the Live thread last evening...
Confident in a Brown victory, I scribbled this together just a few minutes before I left to vote this morning. It'll probably have greater meaning to us Massachusetts residents who lived here during the early 1970's......
To all you weeping libtards reading this, whose collective fast track march to a socialist utopia just got pwned, permit me to be the first to say "Blame me, I'm from Massachusetts!"
And, for me to be able to say this on the one year anniversary eve of your false messiah's inauguration makes it especially gratifying.
I cannot begin to express just how delighted I am that you are suffering, that you are writhing in agony, that you are curled up in the fetal position while crying for your mother to make it all go away.
Brace yourself, this is just the beginning. The November 2, 2010 beat down will arrive sooner than you think so book your therapy sessions early to avoid the post-Election Day rush.
You are absolutely correct.
By no means is it over.
Until we make the business environment in this country attractive to those who wish to profit we won’t have jobs.
Until we reduce the government burden of taxes on citizens, we won’t be able to keep the fruits of our labor.
Until we remove the threat of crippling global warming taxes, we won’t have freedom from high energy costs.
Until people understand that government is not the answer to problems and that WE are the answer to the problems, government will grow. And our problems will not go away.
This will take years and multiple elections, but the fight is on.
I am coming back later for those pictures...:)
Too funny! The Cone of Shame!
“..Celebrate..”
Yes, but cautiously. They’re only wounded. And wounded animals can be twice as dangerous.
Drive them into the sea, throw their stupid communist ideology on the trash heap of history once and for all, THEN we celebrate. I know it’s a tall order.
Don’t want to throw cold water on the enthusiasm, but we’ve only begun to scratch at the scab covering the larger pus-filled cancer.
That being said, I’m happy the message was sent. Let’s hope new SENATOR Brown bucks the Lib machine every chance he gets.
And let’s make damned sure the existing RINOs don’t get another chance at boning us - THAT’s still a huge danger.
LFOD
We are dealing with sinister forces that we have not seen before in this great Republic. We are dealing with people who are so steeped in Marxist, anti-American ideology, that they don't care what the voters think.
If they did, this disastrous "health care" bill would have been gone 6 months ago.
This is a government take-over. A communist coup. This MA victory saved the Republic and gave us a chance, but it is certainly not a final victory.
This will be a long, hard war. And we MUST win.
You have a right to be proud. Thanks for all your hard work. I was with you in spirit at the rallies and marches.
stanz: In NO WAY was I congratulating myself here, FRiend. :o)
I meant that all of us who contributed to the stalling of ObamaCare to this point - whether you attended rallies, marches, called/e-mailed/FAXed/wrote to Senators and Congressmen, educated non-FReeper friends and family members, attended town halls last summer/fall, contributed to candidates, etc. - should be darn PROUD of your accomplishments! You may remember, the 'RATs wanted to ram ObamaCare through starting back in June or July when much of America was away on vacation.
OK, I got a bit over-exuberant in declaring that ObamaCare is "essentially dead" because of Scott Brown's election, but because of OUR actions in fighting ObamaCare, we successfully managed to stall it to the point where it ran up against the Scott Brown election, and now the 'RATs are wondering what to do next.
My husband and I took part in 3 Scott Brown rallies, contributed some $$ and called some family members in MA. IMO, I really didn't do much.
However, I know that a few FRiends of mine deserve real credit for helping Scott Brown make it to the US Senate: GOPsterinMA and Man50D, for tirelessly manning Scott Brown phone banks in MA and CT respectively. Also, RaceBannon was active at the BIG Scott Brown Worcester, MA rally on Sunday, 1/17/10. Kudos, guys!
RaceBannons Sunday 1/17/10 Brown rally after-action report
I'm probably missing others whom I didn't realize were active in Brown's campaign, but I wanted to be sure to give credit where credit is due.
Victory is ours for today, anyway! :o)
Note the TEA PARTY / Second American Revolution flags at Scott Brown's victory celebration last night! (They were present at all of Scott Brown's rallies on 1/18/10 as well.)
Thanks for the ping!
If someone is insinuating that you're taking credit or patting yourself on the back, there is a great misunderstanding afoot.
I will say you and countless others SHOULD congratulate yourselves. What happened yesterday was akin to David vs. Goliath. And you played a part in it! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Hey 0b0z0, are you enjoying that Hope and Change from former Kennedy land aka Camelot?!
We, hope that you enjoyed your honeymoon first year as Potus. What happened January 19, 2010 in former Kennedy Land aka Camelot, was just the beginning as we take back our country.
Give yourself some credit. You did quite a lot as did those thousands of patriots who manned the phones, contributed and marched. The peoples’ voices were heard and that makes me feel exuberant AND relieved. Last night, watching the victory celebrations, it felt like the old days...when we felt optimism; excitement about a candidate and the delirium of victory...especially knowing that this victory and the other recent ones in VA and NJ, will kill Obamacare and put an end to (hopefully)Harry Reid and several others and the defeat of Marxism under this administration.
