I know…technically the decade doesn’t end until next year. Whatever. The first 10 years of the 20th Century, as it was, was a great era for great movies. In my mind, we saw a true resurgence of innovation and imagination…with some routine Hollywood nonsense thrown in.

Now, I took some editorial leeway on some of these, as you will see. For what it is worth, here is my top 10 list:

The movie everybody should be talking about, because it is so pertinent to our country, is 2005’s Idiocracy. Prophetic. Even has a black man as President.

Don’t hit me. I adored the Superman and Lois flying scene.

A silly scene but a minor quibble in a terrific film with a geniune sense of threat and poignancy.

I enjoyed inglorious basterds...but there is no way it was in my top 10. Frankly, I am not sure it would be in my top 20.

As for Slumdog Millionaire, I enjoyed it, but thought it was very overrated.

“This decade” is WHATEVER 10 YEAR PERIOD YOU WANT IT TO BE.

Right! I mean, who really cares whether something is accurate or not. Hey,
maybe I should start claiming that this is still the 20th century, and that this
century won't end until the year 2017. So the 20th century is comprised of
the years from 1918 to 2017 because I have decided that "this century" is
WHATEVER 100 YEAR PERIOD I WANT IT TO BE.

You should check out the ‘Richard Donner Cut’ of Superman II...it was released a few years ago, and shows the film as it would have appeared if Donner had been allowed to complete both films as originally intended. LOADS of new material...fun to watch them back to back just to compare the differences. You know you are watching a ‘different’ movie right from the beginning of the ‘Donner’ cut...

I’ve seen it. That ‘turn back time’ ending they had in mind and used in the first film is inexusable.

In your rush to prove your sarcastic brilliance, you completely missed my point! Way to go! A decade is a 10-year period, correct? A decade does NOT have to end with a certain number, like a 0 or 1. If I say you are the most obtuse person I've known in the past 10 years, THAT is a decade of years. So, when someone says "this decade" they are talking about a 10-year period, and by their use you can probably figure out WHAT 10-year period they are speaking about. If someone comes out this week with a list of the "Top 10 Movies of the Decade", you can figure they mean the 10-year period ending at the end of this month and year. Got it? Do try to get over yourself in the next decade. :-)
