Ah, Vac-U-Form. Sell the razor cheap and gig ‘em on the consumables.
Did you ever have a ThingMaker? With Plastigoop?
That’s it! It got red hot and melted the plastic. It seared right through the skin!
*sigh*...the memories.
They are still sought after by many hobbyists (especially scale modelers such as myself).
No. I had a Jimminy Cricket marionette that would be worth a fortune today though. Like most of us 50+ types, we got very little at Christmas, so the trendy toys stick in your mind.
Molten plastic on the skin - yeeowch!
Dang! That looks wicked cool.
A friend of mine had one of those.
>> Like most of us 50+ types, we got very little at Christmas
... and pretty much nothing at all the rest of the year! :-)
Never went hungry though, and I always had a roof over my head and clothes to wear. My Dad and Mom were everyday heroes, but I bet they never fully appreciated it. God bless ‘em.

I found it. Scroll down at the link.

Realistic M16
In 1968 I was 5
A real bad year in the war.
No wonder mom didn’t like it.

“M-16! M-16! The neatest rifle you’ve ever seen!”
As I recall, that’s how the jingle went.
My childhood home was 900 square feet. We were a family of 4 and we had everything we needed.
I have pictures of my childhood Christmases. There are two or three things under the tree for each of us. It looks pathetic compared to today, but we were soooo happy!
I knew every kid in the neighborhood.
My favourite toy? Lego - it could be any toy you made it to be.
That’s great! I didn’t remember the 1911 but would have loved to have one. I also didn’t ever get one of the rifles either.
Here’s something I did get one Christmas, probably ‘62 or thereabouts:

The Whirlybird Helicopter! With rotors that turned and a hoist that went up and down via the magic of DC motors! (”Batteries not included.”)
I remember lusting after this toy in the Sears toy catalog for what seemed like an eternity (probably 3 months in reality). I think it cost $4.95 — way beyond my reach, for sure. The answer was always, “NO”.
Imagine my surprise when it showed up in a box under the Christmas tree! I think it was essentially ALL I got that year.
Instead of the olive-green one, I ended up with the snow-white “Red Cross Medivac” version. Apparently the North Pole was all sold out of the green ones and the white medivac one was all that was left.
Or maybe my mother was a secret war-hating liberal. (She WAS a democrat, that much I know.) It wasn’t my Dad for sure, he fought in the Army Air Corps in WWII and he never had an issue with war toys!

PRICELESS.

We had Creepy Crawlers! I think we also had Incredible Edibles.
That Plastigoop stuff was something else. It ate holes in styrofoam.
We also had an Easy-Bake Oven. I still have some of the cookie cutters from it.
