Reading Going Rogue was something of a test for myself - could I find the place of appreciation, respect, and even love for Sarah Palin?
What I found is that it wasn't really that hard, actually, simply by taking the time to meet her on her own turf rather than through sounds bites, spin, and polarized media battles. Reading someone's personal memoir is an intimate journey into their inner sanctum, and I developed a real appreciation for Sarah in reading the book. Aspects of her that seemed coarse, simplistic, or combative during the campaign were revealed to be a product of frontier values and growing up in a culture that is faced with subzero temperatures and constant tests of survival.
Perhaps the most moving aspect of the book is the way in which she never waivers in her family commitments throughout the political journey. She passes up an opportunity to contest a Senate seat in order to manage her son's hockey team. She breast feeds in front of a taken-aback lawmaker. Team Palin is a part of every campaign and a constant presence in her official roles. Her family is at the center of her life in a way that feels whole and balanced, which is both impressive and commendable as we all seek to balance competing demands on our time.

It wouldnt surprise me to see the MSM embrace her like it did McLame because they think she will be easy to beat in 2012
“I would also urge conservatives who hate or fear Obama to read his autobiography to better understand the man behind the political leader and thus heal their own biases.”
That’s the difference between Liberals and Conservatives. Most Conservatives have read Obama’s books, I know I have. And he came off as being against everything our country stands for in his books as well. This is why we do not like him.
Dad said, after reading the book the second time (and working on the third) that any one who reads the book will like her.....Make sure we all donate copies to the local high school libraries.
I wonder if it isn’t the real, honest to goodness discovery that the woman is not a cartoon - that she does in fact believe what she believes. I think it comes as a shock to a lefty that she isn’t a complete ideologue (the author seemed truly shocked that Sarah would choose child rearing over senate run, for instance) as are most leftists.
Not saying this is true, but it is possible that when confronted with someone like this they really don’t know what to do. Let’s face it, even they know by now that there are simply no skeletons in the closet and they aren’t going to run her off. I think they are wondering what to do next and maybe, as convoluted as it may sound, they are just plain bumfuzzled.
Of course at the end of the piece, he couldn’t help himself and is dismissive of the poor old simple minded right wing inability to think clearly, but this is a lefty. Not sure I read this as a rave as much as an admission that they need to do some serious recon...because Sarah ain’t going away and she isn’t going to run.
Huffington Post is not even the MSM. They are a loony left outfit.
And two, anyone who thinks Sarah Palin will be “easy to beat” in 2012, has not been paying attention to the polls, or anything that has been going on since her book came out in November.
No one, but no one, on the political scene generates as much strong support right now as Sarah Palin does.
Try getting thousands of ordinay folks to line up in town after town after town, in freezing cold, overnight, just to wait for any other politician to sign their book and see where that gets ya.
there is a problem in seeing conservative and progressive as two ways to ostensibly reach the same goal- progressives don’t have the same goal, and they are not willing to work within the Founders’ framework to achieve whatever goals they have. That said, we know of course that their goal is the destruction of the Founders’ framework: the Constitution. The writer may be well intentioned but he apparently has no clue what his side is really after.
Amazing what happens when you actually read the book instead of wolfing down the media and blog hate spew.
Interesting that he says to read Sarah’s book to get a better understanding of her, then to read Obummer’s book to get a better understanding of him, I think he meant to say to get a better understanding of BHO, read Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”
I think Maureen Dowd liked it too.
That's excellent advice. And if you really, really want to understand the man behind the political leader, read "Fugitive Days" while you're at it. Steal a copy if you can.
Well, this woman is definitely NOT MCLAME.
SHE FIGHTS, SHE ROARS, SHE DOESN’T SEAT AROUND AND JUST ACCEPT WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING.
Her book explained herself more than the VETTING of McLame, the Democratic Machinery (surprise!) and the Lying Media.
Moreover ... she’s undeniably MORE CHARISMATIC than Obama.
Alternatives:
1. Ron Paul: No need to vet; the media will just describe him as a Kook and 2/3 of Americans will just instantly believe;
2. Romney/Huck: These two beta males will even get 30% of the votes nationally - they are totally damaged policy wise and integrity wise. Polls are lying.
3. Pawlenty, Daniels, Barbour: MN, IN and MS econ status are much worse than Alaska I tell you; Each has to explain so many things.
4. McDonnell: He’s quite good. I dunno if he will take the path of Sarah Palin - 1st termer going rouge for P or VP by 2012. But if he can keep his name, 2016 or even 2020 will presumably be his prime time.
If you know another potential name, please tell us now. He/she has to be introduced and be known ... “NOW” and not 2011.
That’s the only way to fight an INCUMBENT seeking a 2nd Term. More Recent Proof: Reagan vs. Carter - Reagan had had four (4) years of campaigning (technically) and attacking the policies of the incumbent (Carter) before finally bagging his huge victory vs. the weakest Dem President. Geesh. If I could remember it right, Reagan had a regular radio bashing of Carter.
“Try getting thousands of ordinay folks to line up in town after town after town”..........
Wait a minute, Mitt is coming out with a book in the Spring. No doubt he will get dozens of fans at his book signing, since he’s the leader in the polls......for something......lol
I went and read the comments on the HuffPo site. I would have commented, but I’ve been banned from doing so by the HuffPo moderators. It was surprising that a column fairly favorable to Palin only had 18 comments. I’ve seen a few positive pieces on HuffPo and they usually attract hundreds of unhinged loons attacking, not only Palin, but the author of the column. This may be an indication that Palin hatred is on the wane, or are all the usual loons still in bed.
